Riss Racing = better fuel economy!

so yesterday I was driving down to my weekly meet in Austin (a one hour stretch of I-35) which is a stretch of interstate I have traveled MANY times. I am OCD about monitoring my fuel mileage so I filled up before I left and reset the average mpg setting. On this same trip I have ALWAYS gotten between 26 and 27 mpg. NOT THIS TIME! THIS time I had the RR intake and catless dp's installed and the car had adapted to them. I actually averaged 29.7 mpg! This is no BS and I am not blowing smoke. I was so stoked that I made the ppl at the meet look at my dash to see it with their own eyes...and yes they were all envious

Sounds good, but you need to validate at the pump. I'm sure Riss would love to advertise that improvement.

mmm, better flow + conserative driving *supposedly* increases MPG.

I think this is the reason why, I was talking to a Dinan tech and he was saying that the stock intake has a negative "milibar" (someone correct me if this is not the correct term) reading, meaning the turbos have to expend significant energy to suck air in, thus when you take that restriction away, by adding a free flowing intake that car doesn't have to work as hard to make power. Plus if you add downpipes its really lightning the load on the turbos. Essentially, im not surprised that set up gets better MPG:biggrin:
+1 Noticed about an additional 2 mpg, despite me flooring it more often to hear that sexy sound of the intake. If I drive conservatively might even see a little more.

I saw a significant improvement the first couple of tanks after I installed the catless DPs (about 4MPG) but it seems to have tapered off some now, to maybe a 2MPG improvement over what I was seeing before. Still any power increase that doesn't HURT mileage is great IMO.

If you can attain 2mpg extra for just the intake at 10000 miles per year, there is a payback period of 3 years if you currently avg 24 mpg. if you currently avg 20 mpg the payback is more like 2 years assuming you still get the +2 mpg. depends how much gas you suck down!

bump

guys im seriously amazed... i put the downpipes on rescently and I'm getting an average 25.4 mpg compared to my stock 21

from what I understand the better air flow just makes the turbos more efficient and have to work less harder... and its defintely been proven that the intake and the downpipes Riss Racing offers give a better air flow... now i just can't wait to see if the scoops have an effect too and im guessing the exhaust might slightly help

it defintely feels nice having a car thats probably running atleast 350 at the wheel getting 25.4 mpg!! thanks riss racing!!

Just a bump on this thread for curiosity's sake. Have people consistently validated the MPG improvement when filling up at the pump?

So you've seen the difference at the pump yourself?

I have. I'd say it's a 2MPG increase at highway speeds. It's hard for me to tell around town because my trips are so short it just sucks no matter what.

Do you just have the catless DPs, or do you also have the intake?

My MPG went up since installing RR intake and DP's. I too have the JB3 and it really all depends on your driving style. I'm pretty conservative so I get pretty decent MPG.

I'm assuming a lot of the mpg benefit will disappear with the catted DPs?

RR catted DPs would likely still net better than stock fuel economy as they still flow better.
