I have a honda CRV with a 14gal tank too, and it seems i'm always filling up even though its a 4 bang'r.

if they made it bigger, then others will complain about rear legroom and/or trunk space. it's a small car, can't win at everything

I've been getting about 410km on a tank (filling the tank all the way until the on-board computer gives a remaining range of about 5-10 km), which compares pretty well to my old A4 1.8T, which went about 430km on a tank. My A4 1.8T had a 60l (16 gal) tank, on top of which there is 6l (1.5 gal) of reserve. So I'm fairly happy with the range on the 135i, since it has roughly the same range as my last (heavier, much slower) car.

As a side note, yesterday I drove until the on-board computer read "Range ---- km". Very soon after I dropped by the pumps and the car took 53.5l or 14.1 gal. So either the quoted capacity in the owners manual doesn't include the reserve, or I very nearly ran out of gas. And yes, I know it's horrible to run a car out of gas, that it's easy to keep the tank topped off, etc.

with the rising cost of fuel, i can't afford to fill a 10 gallon tank let alone a 14 gallon tank. so for me, 14 is plenty.

For those driving their 135i mainly in traffic, the tank may seem small. But if the OP's 128i gives the same overall 27.5 mpg as mine has, then 330 miles per tank (with a 2 gallon reserve) doesn't seem so bad.

Would those who'd like a larger tank prefer that rear seat and/or trunk space be cut, or should the car be longer?

gahh, i completely agree with this and hate how i am constantly filling up, it gets annoying how i can get a full tank, drive around the city for about 20 miles and the level drops to 4 notches below full!

I thought this smallish tank would bother me, but it doesn't at all.

Sure, it's a bit smaller, and fill ups are a bit more often, but not really that much.
Even if it were 2 gallons more to be more typical of other similar cars, it would be like 16 gallons (my '06 A4 had a 16.6 gallon tank). At about 22mpg avg, that would only be 44 miles more before filling up again.
Not a big deal.
It's just that if you want power then you get less mpg, and along with the smaller tank, it seems to small.
For me, it just isn't an issue at all, and I thought it would be.

The little added benefit to this smaller tank is lower cost per fill up.
Granted, it's all the same, but it's nice to fill up and not pay as much as I was with my A4 2.0T. My A4 got better overall MPG, about 24-25mpg. But, it did MUCH better at highway runs where I'd see 30mpg avg. I can't seem to get that in my 135i at all.
But then, at highway speeds it's too fun and too tempting to dip heavy and often into that sweeeet turbo thrust.

Meet the 118D


BMW is expanding their 1 Series line-up and they introduce two new models to the Coupe range. First one is the new BMW 118d Coupe powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine which produces 141 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque.

The 118d runs from 0 to 62 mph in 9.0 seconds and it is electronically limited to 130 mph. BMW claims a combined fuel economy of 52.3 MPG and CO2 emissions of 119g/k.

In the UK, the 118d starts at £20,500 and £23,375 for the M Sport variant.

Second model introduced is the 120i Coupe, a gasoline powered 2.0 liter engine which produces 167 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque; top speed of 139 mph and running from still to 62 mph in 7.8 seconds.


The fuel consumption is rated at 35 mpg and CO2 emissions are 153g/km. Pricing? Slightly higher than the diesel variant, £21,115 for the standard model and £23,990 for the M Sport Package one.

The first car will be deliver on September 1st.

Many gas pumps are not calibrated correctly. You should report that station.

Good one, I never thought that the pump might be incorrect. I hardly ever go to that particular station I was using; I didn't want to risk running out of gas, so I just went to the nearest Chevron.

1er gas tank is too small because the fuel economy isn't that great, even on the non-turbo 128i.

im lucky if i get 410 km per tank. so far my idrive tells me im getting 6.8 km/l and ive driven the car for about 3000 km since june. even my twin-turbo, heavier x6 xdrive35i gets 5.4 km/l. not much of a difference if you ask me.

I enjoyed the A4 2.0T a lot. I had the S-line, which included the sport suspension as you know. It was a very nice automobile. Not very fast, but a lot of all year fun. Driving in snow was a blast. I could drive it forward going sideways! Never worried about snow at all.
But, I returned it when I picked up my 135i.

My 135i is MUCH faster and does have better overall grip with faster handling. The ride is not as good, not even clsoe. I LOVE my 135i. It'll be interesting to see what BMW does with the new one. I hope they fix some of the things like the suspension and the steering. If they do then it'll be BMW again, if not then I may go back to Audi as the new A4/S4 have really upped their game.

To me the 1 series gas tank is to small, because I use to have a 350Z with an 20 gal. tank. I have to fill up 2 times a week.
