It's actually pretty funny because the Step and the DCT both make most shifts in under 200 milliseconds... the perception threshold for humans. In both cases it feels literally almost instantaneous, as long as the trannies don't need a reset from getting lazy. This is according to BMW's own advertising media. I have the source but I'm too lazy to look it up again. If anyone says they can feel a difference in shift speed between the DCT and the step, they're lying

And fuck the big mirrors. They're not a deal breaker by any means, but they look kind of out of place compared to the smaller early mirrors.

This thread got totally jacked... I thought I was going to read 3 pages of what people liked most about their car... Guess that's what I get for thinking...

I like the fact that very few people have a car like mine and also that few know anything about it.

Seriously.

My original point was that: A cheaper car made in '08 is easily noticeable as "old." I love that my '08 1er still comes off as brand new to many people

Seriously?
Your OP was OK then you went off and and got a wild hair and bashed on other owners cars for no apparent reason. Uncalled for.

I started stating my opinion by "IMO" ...meaning In My Opinion.

What grade are you in?

To get back on topic... things I like:

-How easy it is to tune (being turbo).
-How for a turbo there isn't all THAT much turbo lag.
-How it's "different"... before I found out about this car (bought it in 2008 when it wasn't all that popular, and it was new) I wasn't all that interested in a 3 series or a BMW. This car has made me a BMW fan.
-How people still don't know what it is. I get asked if its a 1M/M3/WHAT IS IT? all the time.
-TORQUE
-The community we have! Or at least sort of have, based on the attitudes of some members lately

But seriously, even nowadays, nobody knows what this car is! Either people are dumber than I even imagine, or this car is pretty low key.

As hard as it is to list just one thing i love about my car, id have to say that
its a head turner.

Not only for other people but 4 years later I still find myself looking back at it after locking it while walking away and admiring the subtle and fine details about it.

Before i even knew what this car was , it was a head turner for me. I saw one in a parkin lot once driving by it and was like "woah, what kinda bimmer is that? A 1351 ? hmmm, I like that".. lol

I was driving back from an Audi dealer - taking the night to make up my mind on an A3 I was considering taking delivery of - and I happened to pass the BMW showroom on the way. I saw a 135 in the window and it was the same reaction.

Head turned - thought what the hell is that? Two hours later I walked out of that dealer with a lot less money in the bank.

My decision was not nearly so quick but was a result of a very favorable initial impression. My son and I were visiting my daughter in Atlanta and decided we would go look at convertibles for me. I was thinking of buying one but had done no actual looking. So we went and drove a miata. I liked it but didn't really fit (my head was touching the top). It also only held two of us, of course. So I thought maybe I should get a 2+2. There wasn't a Ford dealer nearby or we would have driven a Mustang. I've had them as rentals, however, so I pretty much know what they are like. There was a BMW dealership nearby and I'd heard about the 1 series but never seen one. They had a AW convertible with black top and taupe interior in the show room. I told the saleslady we were just looking but I would buy something in a few months and I lived in SC. She encouraged us to try it out. A few months later I ended up with essentially the same car (after considering other color schemes). Unfortunately the dealership in Atlanta didn't offer nearly as good a price as one local to me but I bought one just like they had on the floor in Atl.

I still like the looks, the good handling and quick acceleration, the comfort and luxury feel (NVH, nicer lighting, automatic headlights, HVAC, wipers, etc..).

Jim

Aside from knowing *about* the M3s and stuff, I knew nothing about BMWs at all until I saw the 1 Series. Something about it caught my eye and made me stare and admire it.

Mentally noted the badge and researched up on it when i got home. Year later...here I am.

All the BMWs are awesome looking, but something about the 135 sticks out from the rest and is incredibly unique and stands apart from its bigger brothers.

Some say its a good thing, other don't. But for me, its all a plus!
