Bluetooth Audio

So I'm new to this side of things. I have nav and Bluetooth but not audio on my 2009. I owned a 2011 that my ex still enjoys and you can stream audio without an aux.

My question is what is involved in making that possible on my 09?

I went with a simple bluetooth receiver that plugs into the AUX jack and uses the USB port for power, but will be replacing it soon because I don't like the form factor of it, and it's been kind of a POS. There are a multitude on Amazon to choose from, and a big thread about it in the E90 forum. If you have an iPhone, you'll want to look into receivers that can use the audio codec used by iPhones, otherwise you'll suffer from bad audio quality. This one seems to work well, as per a couple posters on the E90 forum, it's what I'll be ordering at some point.

I use https://www.amazon.com/BlackBerry-AC.../dp/B008736UWO in my car and it works fairly well. Picked it up for like 15$, but that was a while ago.

I've tried several models including some high end ones that claim to work with the steering wheel controls, but not a single one of them has to this point. Just go with one that's reasonably priced, A2DP, and has good reviews.

Do you have the USB & auxiliary jack in the center console under the arm rest? If so run this:

If you have Nav, do a combox retrofit...fairly easy and you get a ton of neat functions out of it including Bluetooth Audio

What parts do I need to do the retrofit?? I'd be more interested in something like this in hopes that I can get song display on the dash and steering wheel control!

A bit of a loaded question really...it depends what is already in your car...the minimum requirements as I came to understand it are CIC Nav, (which you have based on your year) Bluetooth connectivity (either via TCU or MULF or both) and USB/Aux in the center armrest.

If the above is satisfied, your CIC needs to have software on it to support the Combox (usually its just recommended that you go to BMW and have them do a full update of your whole car if you dont care about BMW Connected Drive/Apps) and then you need a small harness to convert your existing TCU/MULF setup to the Combox and of course the Combox itself. After that its some coding and your up and running...I actually just did the entire thing (CIC/Combox) on my 08 which came with the old CCC nav...feel free to PM me your short VIN (last 7 digits) and ill check your options and see what you need.

I have the Firefly, it's pretty much the perfect solution. No annoying beeps when it connects, no buttons to push. If you have a USB port don't bother ordering it with the power adapter. Just plug it in the USB jack for power, the other end in the AUX port and you're good to go. The only downside is it doesn't always automatically connect on start up but that could be my phone. Sound quality is fine, no complaints. I've tried several other BT solutions but they all have their flaws. Very happy with the Firefly.

I have the Kinivo BTC450 and I absolutely love it. It plugs into the rear/center via aux and cig, and tucks away neatly. Sound quality is perfect and the single most important feature which won me over was AUTO-PAIRING as soon as you start your car.

I use this and am extremely pleased. Works like a stock BT streaming unit. Shows track info on radio, and steering wheel controls integrate seamlessly.

Same here

I use this same unit with my ipod..... it works great, sound great and doesn't have cords all over the place. For $14.00 it's worth it!

Thank you rocksarntpeople! and thank you everyone for your input... Im definitely looking at spending the time, money, and headaches to achieve the factory style of connectivity.
I have done the JL Audio amp upgrade and what a difference! now I just need this last thing to be happy
