Michelin PSS or Goodyear KDW2

Just ordered a set of apex ec-7s and now I need some new tires... I narrowed it down to these two but open for suggestions. I like the KDWs because of the dry/wet and the PSS are attractive with all of the rave reviews. How bad are the thread life on these tires? I don't want to be changing them every 10k miles. What do you guys think?

PSSs have been lauded for their fantastic thread life, along with their performance. I have a set on my car now, they're really sticky.

There's no comparison between those tires. The PSS is worlds better.

Now the RE-11, that's another step up in grip but will you will see shorter wear and less rain performance.

PSSs are fantastic in the rain. When we had some real heavy rains a couple weeks ago people were crawling along and I was doing normal speed with total confidence.

I disagree, my Z1s performed much better at Auto X last year and lasted a lot longer, PSS do not stand up to Auto X or track abuse nearly as well as the Z1 or RE-11.

Re-read the original post. He's not asking about your time at the Auto X. Tread life being a concern, PSS is probably the best he's going to get that is a healthy compromise between performance/practicality.

I still disagree, I got a lot more mileage street driving on Z1s too rather than PSS, almost twice the life.

Tread wear rating of 300 on the PSS vs 200 on the Z1s. Maybe you have super special Z1s

Another option you might wat to think on is the Continental Extreme DW. They have excellent ratings in dry and wet and handle superbly. I have ran them for 3 1/2 years now and would not switch to anything else. Price too is good. PSS are excellent also.

For the track, I use the T/A KDWs. Dry rating and handling is incredible and is a good compromise from a R-compound tire. Only 2 BIG drawbacks from the KDWs;

1. They are not good in the rain because of their tread pattern and 2. The get loud as they start wearing off. and I do mean LOUD.

Tread wear rating is irrelevant because there is no universal testing for it, the manufactur just chooses what they want to market the tires at, it does not mean it will last a specific mileage.

I'd argue that it has more merit and relevance than your fantastical story, but okay.

the KDW2's are great dry and pretty good in the rain but they are loud and I mean loud...like driving an F150 with Dick Cepek mudders...and they get louder and louder as they wear

mine lasted about 15k on my SRT4 but that was because of massive wheelspin...400 whp and wrong wheel drive doesn't play well together
