Quality posts are a rarity in these parts.

You can change eDiff profiles via coding.
Can you please expand and explain how this can be done? Or any documentation

In one of the modules there are a number of profiles for the eDiff, including turning it off or letting it know there is a LSD present. I stumbled across it a year or so ago, so this is just off the top of my head. I'll post more whenever I get around to actually installing my LSD.

Interesting. If I could turn off the E-LSD that would be ideal.

I haven't experienced any of the open diff effect on my quaife at the track with my 135. I've had about 14 full track days on the diff so far. Maybe in theory it will go open but in practice it doesn't. or at least it hasn't to me. I have a plate type LSD on my 330 and I have noticed lock induced understeer on several occasions. Certain turns on certain tracks and every time I hit the same corner. That's why I switched from plate to quaife when I bought a diff for my one.

I echo the same sentiments about how in real world the Quaife works find. I've done 50 track days with my Z and never experienced any open diff like effects.

Reason why you probably haven't noticed the open diff effect is because the eDiff would work in conjunction with the LSD, so whenever one wheel completely lifts of the ground and starts spinning, the eDiff will catch it. If I had a 135i with a Quaife, I'd actually keep the eDiff on and not try to code it out.

I have a 130i without eDiff and used to run a Quaife. Definitely noticed open diff effect in certain conditions. Have since changed to an OS Giken Superlock which eliminates the open-diff effect.

Interested in your rear suspension setup- were springs captive when the vehicle was raised?

Which diff cover fits our cars? I've only seen them for the 135i.

I checked the VAC site & the only 1er diff covers I saw were for the large 135i diffs.

Didn't even know Quaife made diff covers. Anyone familiar with US sellers?

Did you go with stock final drive ratio? I can't remember if I've asked you about this before - I seem to recall discussing a 3.46 or 3.73 final drive with someone.

No, I'm only familiar with Birds and Schmiedmann.

The only thing I'm not sure about is it says it fits all E82 models, which obviously can't be true since 135i's need a bigger diff cover. Unless they have multiple sizes under the same part listing. They do ask for a VIN, so that may be the case.

I've ordered from Schmiedmann a couple of times before and wouldn't hesitate to do so again. The only thing is, from what I've heard, a finned diff cover isn't really needed with a Torsen-type differential because they don't generate as much heat as clutch-types. Sure looks cool, though!

Anyway, thanks for the tip!

Kept the FD of 3.46 on my Z4.

I ordered directly from Birds and got the 125i/130i version.

Is a 30/90 what you ultimately ended up going with? And did you do their standard 40% static lock or a lower, custom value?

TIA

30/90 yes. I don't know exact lock, but it was really low and now standard

Will probably go for the same diff, but with a more aggressive final drive. Unfortunately that means screwing up SCCA classing, but I don't have Nationals aspirations and don't think I want to pass up on the opportunity to make the car more fun. I guess I can still drive open class or whatever at regional events?

You'll be bumped into SM I'd think.

ASP would require you to go to a ratio that is available within the current chassis IIRC.

Either way, you'd still be able to run something.

Just bought a Wavetrac for my 128...(got it for $1190)

With the Stage 3 & headers, it definitely needs help now...

I'm having the guy at DiffsOL send me carrier bearings and some shims...(pulling carrier bearings is tough)...I'll press the new bearings on, bolt the ring gear on (not changing from 3.23), set the backlash, check the gear pattern...done deal.

evolution42 can you you let me know if you noticed a big difference between the Quaife and the OS giken?

I have a 2010 130i and am thinking about getting one of them?
I use this as my daily driver and do about 25.000km each year.
Just want to have some more fun and occasionally use it for a drift.
Later on, in 4y time I will convert it to my trackcar.
