Good question! Think I'm going to wait and see on the new 2 Series. Love the 4 Coupe, but I really think BMW is going price it ridiculously. So doubt I will be interested. But if the 2 takes it queues from it, I may be sorely tempted. But it will take a lot for me to part with my beloved 1er.

I'm sure I'll have mine for quite a while as I've had this conversation a few times....

Me..."I'm gonna get _____ new performance part"
Wife..."you're gonna keep this car for a while, right?"
Me..."of course"

I tend to get my "performance" oriented vehicles to the point I want them and hang on to them though....so she's pretty confident I'll do the same with this one. However if a 1M came along...all bets are off and I always throw in that disclaimer.

Add me to the keepers list. I love the car and still owe on it for 4 more years.

Barring anything unusual (can't afford it any more, or have so much new wealth I get a Ferrari), I bet I'll have it for 10 years or so much like my past cars.

The 4 series will cost more than a 3 and the performance won't be noticeably better than a 135i unless you get the M4(3) which will likely be in the $60+k range. The 2 series will be underpowered including the M2 so until there are some solid tuning options out there to push better than 330 hp out of the turbo 4, you won't get a better deal on performance from BMW than a 135i with some basic upgrades.

For those of you who plan who plan to keep their 135, how many have had issues with it so far?

4 years, and only minimal issues. Of course had all the requisite recalls and S/B's, tailights, HPFP, seat belt tensioner, but none of them ever gave me a problem. The only mar is I've had to replace the AC evaporator 3 times.

I've been keeping my car for 6 years to help reduce the pain of depreciation for buying new.

Everytime I tell myself I'll keep the car forever, but always end up with something else, so even though I 'feel' like I'll keep it forever right now, chances are I'll be tempted by the 4, or maybe the new 2 in whatever form it's coming to the US in.

But as of right now, it's looking hard to give up either my 3 or 1, especially when I'm ok passing on the F30.

On my second e82, this one isn't going anywhere for a long time.

Depending on my financial situation in half a decade I hope to maybe have a bmw sedan, preferably a new 2 series Gran coupe would be nice (m variant why not?). If that's unrealistic I would love some used practical car that's still fun, STi (hatch), M3 sedan (too bad there's no touring), or CTS-V wagon comes to mind. Only time will tell.

Plan for me is to get into an M4 when they get here. But if I find a 1M and it feels right ill head in that direction for a little while before the M4.

My son (28 years old) wants to buy my 62,000 mile 128 coupe so my plan-of-the-moment is to order a 2013 and have the last model year NA six cylinder engine made by BMW.

Definitely keeping mine for the following reasons:
- straight 6, definitely not interested in the Diesel sound of the N20 and since I am looking at reducing costs rather than increasing, I don't think I will look into a 235i or a 435i
- relatively light and compact, compact sport car feel, not interested in a bloated 2 or 4 series
- one of the best hydraulic power steering you can find, not interested to lose this connection with one of the new electric power steering system
- if the front of the 2-er is as ugly as the F20, count me even more out
- Not sure whether they will have the manual stick as good as this one. From several reviews, it looks like the stickof the current 1 series is one of the best BMW achieved.

I feel like the 128i is one of the last of its kind, almost a relic of what BMW's used to be, true to its roots and I don't feel excited by what is coming, as gorgeous the new 4 series seem to be...

The steering is perfect. I have no doubt they'll make future electric versions to feel as good, but it's going to be tough!

I was scared of this, too, but it looks like the 2 is going to be a looker.

The fence between a 128 and135? If its any help...I bought a BRAND NEW low options zero miles 2012 for $29200 and its absolutely awesome...black on black , tinted windows, just added a BMW performance exhaust and it get compliments daily...my friend with a 335 is jealous it's so nice looking...

BUT here is my one piece of advice...if you get the 128, absolutely ABSOLUTELY get it in manual, it's a totally different car...test drive a manual 128 vs auto 135 and you'll see the clear choice...

The 135 is a great car, the 128 is a great car...
