I thought with US Spec cars you could opt for adaptive braking? Or do they all come with it...?

My options sheet doesn't list any option for adaptive brake lights.. is it just a coding thing?

Thanks.

The US's Department of Tranportation seals or stamps that every headlight and tail light must have. These blacklines don't have them, that is why BMW NA does not sell them in the US. They are technicaly illegal for sale or use in the states.

IF you open your trunk and look at the black area on the tail lights(the part that sits near the trunk rubber gasket)... you will see the DOT (and EU)stampings.

All US cars have that "two stage" braking lights. On hard braking the inner lamps come on a second after the brake lights come on.

EU cars have that feature where the third brake light flashes under very hard braking and IF you continue to slow down HARD... under 70 kph(I think) to a dead stop the hazzard(foru way flashers) lights will also flash. US DOT says that flashing of the hazzards would confuse moterists so US cars don't get that feature.

Yes, it can be coded - if you so desire.

What about the people who just swap the light switches? Can I do the lego mod and still get access with no programming as my car is 02/09 build.

Yes. The Lego mod is just for the rear brake fog(s). The two stage brake lights also use those same fog lights when braking hard. IF you have the brake fogs on and you brake hard - othing will happen.

But with two different specs, right?! High and basic

Today while I was poking around the www.1erforum.de I did see two blackline light listed. One is referred to as "basic" and one as "high" as in Highline(I think). Just like for the e87 four door hatch, BMW makes a LOW and a HIGH line version. Most people seem to like/buy the highline version.

I can not tell the difference between the these two lights. Maybe it is the way the LEDs are arranged like for the e87 Blacklines.

Here are the part numbers for both e82 LCI Blacklines...

(this is the kit that everyone is posting pics of here in this thread and seems to like/buy!)
Die Blackline HIGH TNR. 63212225282 liegen bei

Thanks for the comparison pics. I do see there is quite a bit of difference in these lights now. I will not pay the $400 or so to switch them out for my LCIs, but if I had an '08-'11 model, this is a mod I would definitely consider doing.

I can put him down. BUT like I said earlier this is LIKELY not to happen after the holdup... your better off ordering a set yourself if you can't wait (which might be a waste of time given the facts we have...)

i dont understand why you guys are still persisting for a group buy? what could you possibly be saving on a $340 set of lights. I have had my lights in for a number of weeks now. I think all these delays are due to the sheer order size for the group buy! Hats off to the groupbuy organiser for his/her persistence but I think the extra $ are worth the shorter wait. Just sayin

Only this picture really shows it:

If you can't see a difference between the left (blackline) and the right (original LCI), I can't help you.

EDIT: Oops, as woosh points out below, you must be talking about High and Basic. My mistake. Disregard.

Yup that's correct Dack

When I first started searching for these lights on ebay.de (before schmeidmann listed them) I noticed the two variations... I guess my post about that was lost in the multitude of pages/threads about these lights hahaha

No, the comparison (in post # 319, which I think 'new21er' is asking about) is between the HIGH and BASIC version of the Blackline lights. There's about a $50-100 difference between the two. When lit up you'd know which version it is High is the gas strip one... whereas Basic doesn't light up to the same extent, I don't know what it's structure is unfortunately. But it doesn't look anywhere as good.
