When the Z3 M cars were created, I believe their VINs shared the same sequence as the the other Z3s. You might find this is the same for the 1M, but I am not certain. The Z3Ms in general were all WBS cars, the very first and last cars were not.
According to the site they will definitely be adding the 1M during their next round of revisions. He didn't give a date.

With all due respect that site is worthless. *They have very little data on a lot of different cars. *I mean really 5 E9x M3's? *That's including verts, sedans, coupes? *And only 197 E46 M3 coupes, and how many years has that car been out of production? This forum has 170 members already signed in with deposits. I registered 15 members(1M) in a matter of hours. This forum will be the best resource for doing this right.

Keep 'em coming guys!

Are the full vin really a privacy issue? With the last four digit you can work out the full vin anyway.

I don't see any real privacy issues, the number is out there anyways. Anyone get get the VIN from a dealer listing. In fact I have been pulling the VIN's from cars dealerships are selling and adding them to the registry before the car is even sold. If you look at the list in the Mcoupe NA registry which has every vehicle produced, everyone participated, all 1815!

Then we know what happened. Just food for thought....

I'm not saying to be paranoid, but it has happened in the past.
I don't understand. Are you having second thoughts about this thread? BTW, dealerships are aware that there are people that have tried this before and they do not give keys to people who are unregistered owners with VIN numbers alone. We got some good momentum thanks to you, let's keep it going!

Metak - I agree that a registery is great. I am just stating what has happened with regard to public access to VINs (despite what some dealerships may say). Many registers require membership to view VINS is all I am stating. One way - and I think it is the way the 1M roster is shaping up - is if VINs are viewable, they are not associated with a name/location. This way an owner may look up his VIN in relationship to others, but only he knows his address.

Having been involved with BMW CCA for over 25 years, and am presently on one of the BMW Special Interest Groups International Board Of Directors, I just want to make sure we do it as safely as possible. We need to always remember - once it is out on the internet - it is out there for everyone to see.

I agree, this is why I am focusing on these 4 items. No full VIN, no names, no address, not even the State. If someone wants to PM me rather than having their screen name associate with the short VIN that's fine too. With the Mcoupe registry that I keep using as an example, they used the full VIN on every vehicle ever produced in NA. Just saying, I had no problem using my full VIN with that car...

1)Short VIN(last 5 digits)
2)Country
3)Production Date
4)Color.
