Saying Goodbye to my 135i and BMW
My lease is up next month on my 2008 135i and it's time to say goodbye to it. I really REALLY enjoyed driving it. It had been the best car I ever had, not to mention the fastest (and I came from modded Mustang GTs and 300z).
I had hoped to move into a loaded 2012 m3 but I ended up purchasing an Audi TT-RS after the combination of a truly miserable experience with the BMW sales team at the dealership here in Vegas and my extreme good fortune in securing an allocation for the first (and only 1 of 5 total) 2012 TT-RS cars here in Vegas. After driving the Cayman S, Mercedes C63 Coupe, M3, Audi S5, TT-RS and Nissan GTR it really did come down to the TT-RS and the M3 (which were also nearly identical in price). The exclusivity of the TT-RS and the horrible way the BMW dealership treated me were the deciding factors. I'll miss my 135i and when the new M3 and M5 come out I will take a hard look at both and decide whether to buy one or keep the TT-RS. However, I will be purchasing from another BNW dealership outside of Vegas if I do. I had a chance to track my new TT-RS and it simply blows my 135i away (both were at the track). The Audi TT-RS was designed to be a true turn-key track car solution though so it's no surprise that it beats anything BMW has at the moment. Farewell! I would have kept the 135i had it not been on a lease.

That is not a fair comparison between the two 360 vs 300 HP, any way enjoy your new ride. Not a big fan of 5 cyl engine.

How anyone could not like the 5 cylinder TT-RS is beyond me. It's quicker than a v10 R8 and corners like a 911.

That Haldex system is awful. The 5 cyl engine is a peach, I grant you, but the rest of the car, especially the crap steering and Haldex chassis isn't a patch on a rwd setup.....dull as dishwater.

Good looking and great sounding car, but it does not trump the entire BMW line as you claim. Sure, 0-60 will come sooner with an awd platform, but last time I checked the reviews and comparisons (specially against the 1M), the tt-rs suffers from some major understeering, and most of us who buy these cars enjoy more than simple acceleration.
Though I believe it looks terrific, I also think it's too vanilla for my taste, but this is something subjective to everyone's eyes. Congratulations on your purchase, and I hope you have a blast with your new toy! |

I used to live in Vegas and once tried to socialize with the Sales guys at Desert BMW. They thought they were the best in the world, like they were selling Ferrari's or something. One told me with a straight face and deep voice "everyone pays MSRP, no exceptions".

I will never understand the arrogant attitudes of car salesmen. They act like they've hand built the cars themselves! Sure, Horatio Pagani has the right to be arrogant but a guy who drives to the dealership in a Kia and acts like he's CEO of the fucking company is a douche.

"No, its not faster than an M3. Especially around a track. Heck, a 1M has beaten it in every comparison. Maybe the only M3's you are racing are parked ones? Other than the sweet 5 cyl, its an automatic secretary's car." You must have missed the part when I said I test drove the M3 several times and that I have the 135i. All three were on the track a couple of weeks ago and the Audi was the best out there. Wasn't even close. My TT-RS clocked multiple times 0-60 in slightly under 4 seconds and my TT-RS is stock. I've read all the reviews on the 1M versus the TT-RS. Thing is, those were against the european version and not the american. I love the styling of the M3 obviously more than just about anything else and I am NOT a fan of the TT-RS look but I decided on the best "vanilla" track car available and something that was exclusive and with a little modding would be the fastest thing on the track. I made a pretty good choice. I'd be driving an M3..which was one of my points...if the dealership here in Vegas had treated me with respect and not repeatedly lied to me.

Congrats on the purchase!
But like others have said, there are 2 cars that BMW has at the moment that bests the TT-RS. Regardless though, the difference in performance between M3/1M/TT-RS is negligible for even track junkie joe's like us (imho). I was actually extremely close to securing a TT-RS to accompany my 1M, but alas, the gf was unhappy at the prospect of me having 2 highly unpractical cars What color did you end up getting? I actually really love the look of the TT-RS, but the dealership I was at had one that had the spoiler delete, which imo made the car look 1000 times worse. And I LOVE the TT-RS interior. |

C'mon guys I know its hard to admit but the TT-RS is one hell of a machine. I just finished reading "Road & Track's" article on it and they claim is one of the best rides for an enthusiast. Personally I would of gone with the 1M or M3(BMW Loyalist) but you gotta give credit where credit is due.

Sorry to hear about your dealer experience. One of the main reasons I'm driving a 135 (my 2nd BMW) is because the local dealer is so good. When I went shopping for a new car in 2002, I bought a 330i. I test drove an Audi S4, which was nice, but the dealership turned me off. I have been treated exceptionally well by Towne BMW in Buffalo, and will continue to be a repeat customer.

If understeer accompanied by screeching tyres, but VERY fast in a straight line is the definition, then yes, the TT-RS would be. On the other hand if, enjoying a nicely balanced chassis is, then no. I only drove one, briefly, on the road, but wouldn't want to take one on a track......and watching this video shows why

when you say track, do you mean drag strip? Sure it will post faster times there due to the awd, around a real track, not so much. BTW the european version is faster than the us version with the dual clutch transmission and launch control. Surprised you chose the audi over the GT-R.

My friends has a TT-RS and he let me drive it. Now this is my opinion and dont mean to offend you and your new car but, compared to the 135 its defiantly faster in a straight line, and I knew that would be a fact before I even drove it due to the AWD trans. But for me, I'd much rather have the connection to the car and the road, and feel the road under the car going into and out of corners like in my BMW as opposed to a TT-RS which simply in my opinion is not a drivers car. Sure it goes fast, but when it comes down to handeling, not much can outdo the feel I've loved since I drove the car for the first time.
