I bought mine at the end of 2008. It took a week or two to get the production number.

The build date was about a month after I ordered it. It arrived at the dealership in early March 2009. So about 2.5 months from order to delivery.

Just a word of warning, boats to the west coast take quite a bit longer than the east coast due to the longer distance and the canal. It was the longest 2.5 months of my life.

It depends on what allocations your dealer has available calendar wise. My dealer did not have any immediate ones open and it too almost seven weeks to get a production number confimed, but he was able to tell me that up front as he knew his near term production was spoken for.

this.
Dealers, particularly large ones, always have cars in the pipeline. Their configurations are invariable "loaded", but that's a different story.
If they happen to have one which hasn't entered the stage of "no change", they will put your options on that allocation.
In my case, I got a production number on the next day.

One week for me, took exactly 5 weeks between order date and delivery date. In the meantime, my brother who leaves in Belgium had to wait nearly 5 months for a 116d

It only took 2-3 days for me to get a production number, but my car didn't actually go into production until a couple of weeks later.

I just got my prod # yesterday. I ordered on 9/18 so almost 1 month. Prob won't get it until x-mas. Added perf suspension and powe kit 1 at the port. Don't know how much mote time it will add. Saw the new 3 series today, if that's what the new 1 will resemble then I'm glad I ordered this one

Phone call from my CA. (He's very much an old-school car salesman; he read my email asking for a quote, but has generally preferred doing business over the phone.) He told me when I ordered it to give him a call last week. Between one thing and another, I didn't get a chance to call until Saturday. I left him a message then, and he returned my call around 4:30PM today.
