quick ipod question

Hi guys,
Quick question, does the ipod cable supplied from Apple (to charge and sync) work in the 135 to play and display music? my father from memory has a bmw cable that splits into two (1 end goes into the bottom of the ipod , the 2nd end goes into the earphone jack). Do i need to purchase this bmw cable for it to work?
Many thanks
Nik

Edit* my 3 series only had the earphone jack to earphone jack and i wasnt able to view the play lists through idrive, i know the 135 has the usb input part.

It'll work but it'll be super slow and the songs will be in a weird order.

really? it didn't work for me when I tried it?

the Y splitter from BMW is actually one plug onto the ipod and then on the other end it goes to the usb in the car and the aux in. Not the other way around.

Have you check how much it cost over in the states? I wouldn't be surprised that it would be half price over there.

PM Dan@unitedbmw.

I don't think any other place sells it since is BMW propriety, could be wrong though.

the BMW ipod cable is a WOFTAM.... You're better of spending the money on a decent sized USB key and filling it with MP3s. Works better, and sounds MUCH better.

I meant the stock cable from Apple.

I bought my BMW iPod cable from a vendor in the UK. Can't seem to find the name though. And don't buy a fake one from ebay as they have been proven to be rubbish.

My 2011 (pre 9/2011 build) 128 came with the special iPod cable. It has an audio connector, usb end, iPod end and a rather large filter on in. So far, the cable charges my iPod nano (old one) and my iPhone 4s. The radio selector shows iPod after a few seconds, and you can play any track directly. You can also sort by album, genre, etc. Considering the small screen, it works well. With SIRI, you can poke the phone and tell it what album to play as well. Haven't messed with that too much yet. The cable was included in the iPod package, but is definitely worth it, since it seems to work well!

I have to agree. I tend to use the music on my iPhone only on long drives. I have a couple of mega-playlists so I don't have to fiddle with the sound system while I'm on the road. Otherwise, I use the USB drive with MP3 versions of my music.

Hi Nik,

I have a 05/2010 118d with Harman Kardon & the usb/stereo plug under the armrest through which I play my 160gb ipod. I paid the $130 cost of the genuine cable at the time to be sure that all the features eg steering wheel controls would work. We also puchased a new 320d 3 months ago with the new system which has the same connectors but now only requires the apple supplied lead. My understanding is that the Y lead feeds an analogue signal to the digital amplfier whereas the later setup carries the signal via usb in the digital domain. I now buy all my parts, filters etc from Kevin at Cotswold BMW in the UK. Their service is excellent and 7 day delivery prices are appox half of Aust dealer prices even factoring in freight,

Regards,

Jeff
