I was able to break the hard-to-reach tabs by using a pick tool. If you have one you won't have to pull the button off the get to it.

Mod worked beautifully on my 2010 135i. All I had to do was remove the switch and trim off the 4 tabs on the lower button. Great (and useful) freebie mod!
Thanks fellow 1addicts |

How do you know if you have the adaptive braking on your car. I bought mine in Europe but I ordered it us spec because I knew I was coming back here. If I tear it out and do all this it might not work because I don't have the extra bulb? Might be stupid questions but I really want rear fog lights. And I would like to hard wire my radar detector to the front fog lights button because I don't have those either.

According to this
http://www.peterpanbmw.com/specs-and-photos-overview-bmw-1_series-2009-307836.html?isfullwebsite=true Adaptive brake lights are a standard safety feature and all 1ers. Reference paragraph 6.

I would say then that you are wired for the rear fog lamps....anyone else with a 2009 that has success with this mod?

Just did my 09. Cut a pen barrel and trimmed some pieces out of the cap to my tire foam can, haha. Super glued them to the rubber points and glued the pen barrels to the plastic. Works great. That's really dumb that all the wiring and buttons and everything are there and they won't just let them work from the factory. Doesn't make sense.

Hey man, I'm about to try this on my '13 car. But I was also curious about the other button on my 135i and if I could use that to activate something else? You said you configured it for your license plates, I'd love to know how you did this so I can make it a universal on/off toggle for something else!
And just to confirm, this is the bottom button for the fogs right? Paging Rikx1M

It's kinda hard to explain, but if you look at the inside of the button housing you'll see 2 tabs that capture the button to prevent it from popping out.
What I did was use a bamboo skewer to prise up the tab to disengage them while simultaneously pulling on the button from the front. Pops right out. |
