Were my 6 pot Pistons upgraded? Did BMW upgrade?

Check the photo. Previous owners have ghosted me so I don't expect to find anymore information on what has been done.

Scratch the Pistons with an awl and they are metal. I was expecting the plastic and having to replace them to prepare for the track season next year.

I'm just curious now if this phenolic plastic is not what I assumed it would be, or whether BMW or the previous owner has already replaced the Pistons.

As well, when did BMW add those large weights to either end of the front caliper?

Everything I've read states that the OEM pistons are stainless steel with ceramic(circonium) inserts?

They have always had the weights

They look stock to me, the replacement pistons I've seen are black or silver but who knows what color they turn after a few hard runs.

The weight/bulk is normal never quite figured out the purpose
