Track Focused Wheel/Tire/Strut Fitment Guide
I knows there's a thread dedicated to fitment already but I'm tired of digging through posts of people asking about 235s up front or stretching tires. I want track oriented, maximum aggressiveness in here so I want to set two rules:
- Mininum front tire width of 245 - Not on stock suspension Here are my experience with track setups: Old Setup: (4) m261 18x8.5 Rims (3mm spacer in front) (4) 255/35/18 Federal RSR Bilstein PSS9 Coilovers Dinan Camber Plates (-2.5* front) Current: Apex Arc-8 - 18x8.5 ET45 w/ 3mm Spacer (Front) - 18x9.5 ET58 w 5mm Spacer (Rear) - KWV3 w/ Clubsport Camber Plates (-2.8* Camber) - Running short swift springs & no helper springs - Federal RSRR 265/35 & 255/35 Notes: - Front rubs under heavy compression turns, think corkscrew at MRLS. Popper the front bumper clip off - I have about 5mm spacer between rim and strut - This setup also worked with ST XTA coils Goals: While I still have the stock front bumper (1M is in my future I hope) I want to squeeze a 9 inch rim up front and continue to run a 255. Steering response with a wide 255 tire on a 8.5 inch rim is not ideal so stretching them a bit would help. I think.... I also think a 10 inch rear wheel would be doable, I don't get rubbing and my rear fender is just barely rolled out. Ghetto baseball bat style... What are people running up front with a 1M front end?

17x9 ET42 square ARC8, Dunlop Z2SS. *10mm spacer front
Turner race camber plates, -3, 0 toe TCK SA Very rolled and pulled lips 1/2 finger gap front. Rubs tip of fender on big bumps, have not experienced (or at least noticed) on track Decent strut clearance 1 finger gap rear. Does not contact quarters unless you try to clear VERY steep obstacles at a sharp angle, then you will catch the back of the quarters. The e82 clears everything head on, so it is not a concern. Did you know there is a gentleman running a 9.5 front and 255 street tire on a M235i? I'm unsure of the offset and street tire doesn't really help but food for thought. I don't recall his username on 2addicts

I have the ARC-8 in an 18x8.5 in the front and 18x9.5 in the rear
225 and 255 respectively in the ad08r st coilovers for now There was a 15mm spacer in the rear and the rear rubbed bad on any type of bump the front has no spacers and does not rub. Previous owner had 235s on the front and the tire hit the fender, bumper and the spring perch adjustable collar on the STs with the 225, no rubbing. I will be investigating a track suspension setup in the next year. I will probably run the STs next season and save up for something for the next year. Ohlins road and track, KW v3 or clubsport, HSD monopro (recommended by a local speed shop, one of the employees has a 1M with the HSDs) the KWs are a 1/3rd of the cost of my entire car, so I might be leaning more towards the HSDs with the ohlins suprisingly being the middle ground at around 2k |

I would 100% go with the Ohlins or MCS single adjustable if this is going to be mostly track duty.

Im thinking of picking up a pair of 8.5s to run a square setup.
235s all around, I dont want to have to modify fenders right now beyond the tab trimming thats already done. I think that will be enough tire until I get the cooling sorted out and start pushing the tune down the line |

255/40/17 Falken 615K on Kosei K1 17x8.5 40mm. Side view. As you can see they do stick out a bit but it's not a big deal. No modifications were made to make this setup work. This is on stock sport suspension. Same wheel setup however with a different suspension setup. 255/40/17 RE71 on Kosei K8 17x9 with 10mm spacer up front / none in the rear. Not stock suspension but no modifications to the fenders or lip. Last edited by mabrahams; 11-10-2017 at 03:38 PM.. |
