Question DME Upgrade without going to dealership?

Is it possible to perform DME upgrade myself or have someone (beside the dealership) do it for small cost?

I am out of warranty and the DCT lag is killing me...

Thx!

No. You will have to visit a dealer. But it shouldn't be too much money. Most dealers charge two hours(@shop rate) for an update.

You can look into doing the alpina flash, but I know NOTHING about this since I have a 6MT. Sounds like where its at if you have 2 pedals.

Alpina flash is for Steptronic trans, not the DCT afaik.

Rocmit, you can update the DME via WinKFP. There should be a few DIY's for that floating around the interwebz

I was reading about that but I wasn't sure if that is the right software. Even if I could get the software and the cable, where would I get the DME flash with...

Maybe I should ask the dealer to do it... That wasn't my first option b/c I thought someone in this forum mentioned that dealer wanted $600 for the service awhile back.

If you have done it, can you elaborate? Where do I get the "Daten" files? Does it come with the WinKFP software?

I would just start calling around and find the right price. It should be under $300.

BTW: When BMW does this they do it right. It takes a serveral hours (like 6) to perform the update and they hook the car up to a charger. If you try it yourself, you could "brick" your DME.

I have WinKFP (I flashed my previous cars transmission) and would not attempt a full update. Not even sure you can get the DME software.

The update you want is "SIB 12 15 14". I just had this done a few months ago. They had my car all day.

It doesn't come with WinKFP. A quick google should turn up links to where you can get both. I believe the latest available Daten is 53.3
