1M Coupe V 135i with DSG

When is somebody going to post a video of a drag race between a 1M coupe and a 135i with DCT (double clutch transmission)?

What's the bet the speed of DCT gear changes + launch control makes up for the 25 less Kw and a drag race will be dead equal... OR heavens above the DCT might actually mean the 135 is quicker in a straight line...?

I was wondering this myself..

Surely someone has ran these two against each other...

I'd rather see a 1M against a N54 135i with manual & step.

I am sure doot recognizes this, but he has a good question IMHO.

A great driver with a good launch and the 1M coupe would probably win.

But DCT launch control and millisecond gear changes mean that any punter can most likely beat a typical 1m owner to 100.

You are right it doesn't matter it's just interesting.

I was wondering the same thing when I put down the deposit on a 1M without ever driving it. I don't intend to track the car and when I drove a 135i with DCT it was definitely very quick.

When is someone going to post a video of a 1M drag racing a Mustang GT? If the Ford wins, I'm going to have to kill myself.

The OP had a good question as they are far more comparable cars than your flame would suggest. I am sure it is a question that many have considered that don't intend to track the car.

Obviously, 'flaming' means something totally different up in Canada.

I will stifle myself while you look for your sense of humor.

Fwiw - I don't consider myself the greatest thing out there when it comes to shifting, but I can shift pretty darn quick, and a few months back decided to answer this question myself by lining up with a buddy who also owns a '11 135i, but with DCT.

Mind you, based on what I had heard/read, I expected to be shredded by this super transmission but the results were surprising: from a dig I beat him (which I couldn't believe myself). Not sure if the launch control delay had anything to do with it, but I jumped a full carlength ahead and stayed there until I let go at about 110-120.

Now from a roll (40 and up), he beat me by about half a carlength. Again, of the two races the one I thought I'd definitely lose I won, and the one I thought I had a chance in I ended up losing.

Factors to take into account: my car is a stripper and his car is fully loaded (would the weight difference be enough to matter?), also apparently there is a delay for DCT to engage when using lc.

I believe 1M's have larger tires, so that may contribute to the better launch.

Edmunds Insideline

Based on Insideline's dyno results, the 1M has a 46 hp and 71 lb-ft advantage over a 135 with the N54. The DCT can not make up for this difference in engine performance.

I'd just let the 135+DSG win the race

I don't need to prove anything.

agreed. and regardless of speed id rather drive a manual over automatic (calling it dsg doesn't make it any better than an automatic)

Now that's just silly. I'd rather have a manual any day, but to say a double clutch tranny isn't any better than a auto kinda makes you look like you don't know what youre talking about.

A DCT is leaps and bounds better than a traditional automatic transvestite.

Look forward to my first encounter against a 1M.. To be fair, I do have software too so would expect to have the legs on one, but should still be interesting with them having similar power outputs..
