Chipped paint on brake caliper
After washing my car today, I noticed that there is a huge paint chip on the bottom of my front right brake caliper (see pic). I haven't noticed this before and its possible that the dealer banged on it when checking my brakes a couple of weeks ago. It looks like a huge chunk just fell off. Do you think this should be a warranty repair?

When I saw the title to this I thought, "OH MY GOD, how petty". That is a pretty big chip though! I think you've waited to long to report it though. Whenever they do work on your car ,be sure to thoroughly inspect everything afterward. Once you've driven off, you've pretty much accepted anything that they may have done to accidentally damage your car. That being said it can't hurt to ask and will vary dealer to dealer and may be influenced by your relation with your dealer and SA.
Good luck, it's never fun to find something like that on your baby! |

I bet the dealer will deny it... maybe call up BMWNA before going to the dealer if you're positive that they are responsible for the damage.

I think you're SOL as far as having this covered under warranty. I mean, it's certainly worth a try, but it sounds like even you don't know yourself that the dealer is definitely at fault. At this point, they're probably just going to chalk it up to a road hazard or something. I've used Dr Colorchip with good results on smaller rock chips - I don't know if it would work on something that big, or even if they could match that color (maybe try getting the paint code from BMW), or if they even off paints appropriate for high-temp applications. Something to think about, maybe. |

Thanks for the feedback. Because the chip is so big, I wonder if it was a paint defect that when pushed or hit, it just busted off. With that much bare metal exposed, I just don't think it was caused by road debris hitting it (I don't have any damage to my wheel or tire) - maybe I'm wrong, I just don't recall hitting anything in the past couple of weeks and the last person to touch my brakes was the dealer. Well until I can get it painted, do you recommend protecting the bare metal somehow - perhaps a few coats of wheel wax?
