2011 Leftover Pricing
Been considering a 135 conv. and took a ride the other day to my local BMW dealer.
Oddly enough they were closed Jan. 2 but I saw a new 2011 leftover on the lotthat was pretty much what I want except a 7 speed auto instead of a manual. I REALLY had my heart set on a stick but if I could get a really good deal on this car I might change my mind. Sticker is $46,700, Edmunds estimates invoice at around $43,000. Any ideas how how much they might deal on a LO 2011? Its a convertible in CT in early January. It was 11 degrees here last night so I doubt people are really coming into the dealership every day looking for convertibles, so they might well be sitting on it for another couple months until the weather breaks. I want to try to leverage a good price. |

Talked to the sales guy tonight. He said best he could do was standard 6% off MSRP and left a little wiggle room because it was a 2011. I said a 'good deal' was $40k and he laughed.
Then started talking ordering a 2012. Eventually he spoke to his manager and said he could do $41,900 on the leftover 2011. I speculate if I was ready to buy on the spot maybe I could do $41,000. |

The thing you have to remind them of, is that car is not just a few months old, it was built in Feb of 2011 at the latest, they've probably had it there for 9 months already.

I'm not actually specifically looking for a leftover 2011. I just stopped by the dealer one day when they were closed and saw one there that was pretty nice (except for the auto). So I figured if the deal was good enough my arm could be twisted to take it. When he asked what that deal was I said $40k.
I agree the car is essentially 1.5 years old already. If the 2012's hit the showrooms in Oct then we're almost 6 months into the 2012 model year. If I really end up wanting that leftover I'll go back end of the month and try to play let's make a deal. |

$41.9 isn't bad, but if you do what a stick hold out til you find one. Like someone mentioned you will regret it later once the new car high wears off.

Does anyone know what the dealer holdback is?
Edmunds says BMW doesn't have a holdback but there's no way the "invoice price" is actually what the dealership is paying for the car. |

Truecar says on a 2011 convertible with an MSRP of $46,250 the invoice is $43,135 and dealer cost is $42,091.

Good deal on that car would be 37-38K, Car is already year old and depreciated at least 10% JMO!

Dealer told me that basically the price of the car (2011 or 12) would be MSRP less 6%.
Then the manager might take some more off of the 2011 because its a leftover. If you back off 6% you end up with basically Edmunds invoice plus about $500-$700, which seems to be about right based upon what people here are saying they paid. |

I didn't see much flexibility on leftover '11's, so the '12 seemed to be the better deal if it's got what you want. If you're leasing, the '12 was clearly a better deal due to much higher residual.
And from personal experience, if you want the stick hold out for it. Wanted a stick on my last car, but bought a slush box thinking it'd be o.k. Well, boredom set in and now less than 2 years later driving the stick I should've got in the first place. Live and learn....
