Picked it up 3/28 and one week later I'm at 850. But I'm retired, so what else do I have to do?

Man if I decide to get a 135i* I'm going to have to take a trip or something to break it. I work from home and put maybe 3,000 miles on my car last year. It'll take me forever to break it in if I just do my normal routine.

Dan

* Still trying to decide between 135i and Evo X MR

Oh, you WILL find time to break-in the 135i as the car is an intoxicating mistress. Normal activity will pale, the new preoccupation will prevail, you will become an addict, a BMW 135i addict. It is inevitable for any owner...:roundel:

What is the protocol for the break-in? What should I be doing, and for how long? I have 150 miles on it so far..... I just want to take it on the highway and blast off!!!

This is a topic that has been known to start holy wars, but my SA told me to keep it under 4500 RPM for the first 1200 miles.

Drove it off the lot and the break in was over and the love affair began.

I was told by my SA that if you want a baby car break it in like a baby. If you want a car that performs drive it like a performance car. He did say no track sessions or beating on the car. I have heard this before so why not.

Sorry.

just test drove an AW 135i manual with 22 mi on the clock and i must say the car felt pretty tight. the motor didn't want to run until past 3k and the shifter was very sticky. you guys past break-in, does the car loosen up a bit? other than that, the car felt heavy compared to my E36 M3 and less connected. maybe it was also the new run flats (as the case also with new tires, can be quite squirmy). the car does pull quite well past 3k even with 2 passengers on board.

the car also had active steering, not sure if that factors in much with steering feel.

Well, you are just bad... Have less then 500 miles on the car, however, I have not exceeded 100mph, have exacted 100mph, have exceeded 4,500rpm perhaps a dozen times, purely by accident, the car has a mind of it's own. Who knew?:iono:
