You've hit the nail on the head. The concerns are: + Likelihood your mod will attract unwanted attention from Plod + Legality of mod under RTA (or equivalent) review at yellow/red defect time + Affect on warranty from dealership + Affect on insurance claim If the car is stolen, no affect on insurance. If the car is involved in an accident and your insurer stands to lose a lot of money, they might have a closer look. If you remove the mod before the vehicle is delivered to the insurance assessment place, no affect. If Plod pulls you over and gives you a yellow defect, you go to your workshop, remove the mod and replace with OEM part and get the yellow cleared before putting the mod back on. If car develops an issue and you want it fixed under warranty, then a mod is only an issue if it is directly related to the warranty claim. It's a live and learn thing with your state and local Plod/RTA nuisance factor to be balanced with the others (dealerships/insurer). Mostly you win but sometimes you lose. If you lose then take it on the chin and don't cry. Most stuff is minor in the grand scheme of things. For others out there: If you mods keep you awake at night then TAKE THEM OFF. Nothing is worth stressing over.

That's pretty much how I see it... The only time I'd be concerned is a very specific circumstance where the car is in an accident AND I don't get access to it before the assessor AND the assessor is really looking for an excuse not to pay...
Not hugely likely and therefore not really a concern... Now I just have to wait and see what it's gonna cost me to ship one over from the states... |

Don't group by when I'm broke!
In terms of attention the exhaust creates I don't think it will be much of a problem.... It's only loud when you give it the beans and still nothing compared to some WRX/EVO. Warranty and legality will always be an issue if you mod your car.... So meh its really give and take. |

C'mon, being the BMW performance exhaust, it no doubt has BMW stamped all over it. Do you really think anyone would give it a second look once they see BMW stamped into it?
So is this just an axle back? The N55 (which is what I'm guessing you guy's are running) has no cat's in the mids but does it have resonators? Surely you could go to your local muffler shop and get something mounted up for about 1/4 of the price of BMWP.

http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=341617 You may also find this page of interest... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=oldman&page=2 I added an iCarbon CF Diffuser as well just to touch it off. The noise is music and gets louder as the exhaust carbon's up a bit over time. I fitted it myself, but it is a bit tricky replacing the mid pipe as there is not a lot of room to cut. They are a bit loud on start up, but that is short lived. After that, you get a beautiful exhaust note with no drumming to speak of. US$895 does seem a bit high for the exhaust. I landed mine for A$1250 (US$275 freight) and that was when the A$ was around .80c, so it should be better now.

1M quad pipe muffler $US961.95 from getbmwparts.
May be more now with the drop in the $Aussie. If it is over $1000 then is terrible to think that someone could work out a deal with the supplier to drop it below $1K and charge more for freight thereby removing the GST impost. This is just idle speculation of course and in no way a suggestion to break to the law as we should all be paying our taxes to support the government's need to spend our money. We really need a lot of pork barrels ( now there's a local industry doing very well indeed ) in this country. Especially in the electorates of independant senators. Opps, did I just say that?
