Installing performance spoiler
I had trouble installing mine, tried twice yet results are all disappointing.
I would like to know where are the important parts to be attached by glue, or the tape, even better and more helpful with the pictures. I tried combination of sealant and 3M tape last time yet didn't work out Then with silicone glue, even worst ..... Such pain in the ass.. Thanks, before

3M tape is all you need. IMO, stay away from glues and other strong adhesives (like what BMW recommends), especially if you find that you are doing these 2nd and 3rd attempts so you don't damage your paint. Good videos out there on youtube helped me with mine, think they were for a 135i.

I used 3M double sided tape to install my the CF spoiler.
The trick is I lightly sprayed the boot lid area with a mixture of water and alcohol so the 3M tape won't stick immediately to the boot lid. This gave me time to adjust the position of the spoiler to perfection. Once positioned, I taped it down while everything dried up and secured. It's nearly a year since I installed it and it's still rock solid as new. Hope that helps.

watched that video which was in some thread. I installed using only 3M tape. Cut up a BUNCH of pieces like the video to cover as much surface area as possible. Make sure to put the tape all the way to the end tips of the wing. I put mine about a cm off and that is the only place where i can see a bit of lift. Doesn't bother me that much now, but that used to be the first thing i saw when looking at my wing, but no one has ever noticed or said anything haha. When applying i stuck it to one side then pushed gradually making my way to the other side and came out wrong and more to one side then the other a bunch of times. i just kept pulling it off and doing it again right away with the same tape. the 3M tape is holding perfectly fine to this day with no movement or change.

I did my own instal using the betalink supplied by BMW. The fit and finish is perfect and the end result is rock solid without any of the movement associated with 3M tape. There is no gap between the boot and the spoiler and I'm very happy with the result. It was the first time I've attempted something like this but I must have gotten lucky. What I did do though was get someone to help me position the spoiler while I applied long strips of tape along the boot to the spoiler. That way once I was happy with the position I was able to fold the spoiler back on the boot to apply the beta link. The strips of tape acted like hinges and made sure that the spoiler was in the right position when I moved it back into place. Then I made fine adjustments and taped every thing down. The next morning I was good to go after removing the excess betalink that had squeezed out during the night. Good luck which ever route you decide to take. |

as above glue/sealer usually works, did you sand/flat the underside of spoiler to give sealer something to key to or maybe to much polish on car body give it a clean with panel wipe to take some polish/wax off it
