Who got excited enough to consider moving from 1M to M4/M3?

As the title suggests, I thought that it could be interesting to have a separate thread here in the 1M Forum to see different reactions of 1M owners (others are also welcome naturally) to newly released M4 Concept Car which probably is pretty much what we will have as the real M4 sometime next year. I figure that there are many of us who passed from another BMW to 1M starting with 2011, in some cases from previous M cars including various generations of M3 so 2014 onward the new M3/M4 will be a natural alternative for most 1M owners to consider...or will it be?

For me, short and easy, I don't think so! It will be even bigger than the E92 M3 which is a dealbreaker for me alone. It won't break world records in weight reduction too; if Auto Bild claim is true and it will have 1495 kg. then this will be 1M weight, not big deal and merely 85 kg. less than a manual E92 M3. The engine will be (one way or another) more powerful version of what we already have as stock. It will also have air curtains and stuff like (this time completed) open side vent/crease kind of design details. However, it still looks like a catalogue of M Performance parts for the 4 series, nothing dramatically different design-wise. And we know that it will have a EPS type of steering and lots of electronic gizmos. So, overall...very predictable for me, I am sure it will be great driving car and everything but I "felt" nothing with this concept. More revolutionary cars like Alfa 4C, a possible Alpine or a surprise M2 CSL (hope never dies!) are still more likely replacements for me in near future or I will happily not replace the 1M which I still consider as the perfect car for me.

And don't get me wrong, I think the closest car to next M3/M4 among previous M cars, is the 1M and not the E92 M3! 1M was a real life test of next M3, a marketing and engineering project, an experiment, that's what I always believed and I think that is actually coming to life now with the M4 but unfortunately not in the small package and raw form of 1M, but as a different final product, more polished.

Now, I would like to hear what others here feel about the concept M4.

Not a 1m owner but im super excited about an m4 so crossing my fingers I can grab one! The only thing I'm iffy about is that v6 twin turbo.. even though it'll be better for mods and i definitely will not leave the car stock i still think it should have been a V8

I posted about this awhile ago and I plan on having one in the garage (albeit the LCI edition). It's a great looking car. I'm also looking forward to the M3 as well as the M2.

Have that released specs for the m4 engine? I love the look of it. Sometimes I wish the 1M were a little larger... Just a little... But I'm not swapping the 1M for an M4.

The M4 looks superb, however i have one issue with it. The rear fender flares are not prominent like the 1M or upcoming M3, making it extra sleeek for my taste, i want something aggressive like this...

the wheels on the M4 are also not my taste, not concave enough to give depth. but these can change no issues.

will I buy either one? maybe yeah, once LCI is announced, but the 1M is staying for Sure hehe. most probably M3 i guess, since the E90 M3 is more rare in Dubai than the E92. i hope they offer it in a stripped form, i dont need options

The M4 concept is a beautiful car, but it looks very large. I would like to see it next to an e46 M3 and a 1M to get a better idea of its scale. But I have no doubt it is a big car, and that makes it uninteresting to me.

I will be interested to learn what ///M has done with the N55 to create the S55. That may give an indication of the power plant produced for the M2.

the M4 looks REALLY cool....especially that colour Aurum Dust. epic. Will definitely be considering one in a couple years----although i echo some of the opinions here about size as i feel it has become a bit too long/big.

nice car. Worth considering.
Let's wait until we known how it rides: I am curious to see how the new M3/M4 will handle the torque... And if BMW really manage to keep it below 1500 kg...

The M4 will be a winner for most but is not my cup of tea at all. I am hoping the M2 keeps that smaller, nimble sports car vibe alive. Plus, there is just too much damn technology in these new cars. The parking lot pimping BMW fans will love the M4.

I have the 1M and don't plan on getting rid of it.
I saw the M4 yesterday in Monterey. It's beautiful, but much longer and larger than the 1M. My preference is nimble and compact.

Judging the book by its cover: frankly speaking, the M4 does not move me the way the 1M did and does. The M4 is a powerful luxury yacht - the 1M one hell of a sexy speed boat. I like the latter more. A different meaning to the catch-phrase "Size matters"...

agree with this. New M4 is absolutely badass though.. perhaps the best looking M car to date.. including my beloved E30 M3... but it is much too large a car for my liking.. If I were to go for anything it would be for a new M2, or even better... perhaps an M2 gran coupe... (read sedan)

I don't mind the additional size if it weighs in less than the 1M.

Continuing the trend the M4 is bigger than the e92 M3, which was already too big for me (though after seeing the M4 I have more appreciation for the e92 M3). Still, I intend to keep the 1M for a long long long time. I am following with interest the M2 developments, as it would be a potential addition to our garage.

Can't say as I'm in the "styling win" camp on the M4, or for that matter, the new 3-series either. Much prefer the look of the out-going e90/92/93 to the new platform, and will furthermore not be trading off my 1M either (or our 135i).

TBH I've looked at that car more than a few times this weekend. It is indeed striking. Like many have expressed, it's definitely much larger than the 1M, which for me isn't such a bad thing. Few months back I was lured into the dealership tempted by an M5 as I was frustrated by how little I actually get to drive my car (two young kids; 4 and 1.5 yrs; my weekend driving is usually defaulted to the X5). I loved the M5's space but that was about it... I ended up turning away from a pretty sweet deal (9k off MSRP AND 61500 for my car).
This experience has pretty much solidified my car's place in the garage.
I love the looks of the concept, I'll however be getting it in the M3 guise (extra doors and space for my kids).

this plan has been discussed and approved by my wife (my favorite disclaimer)

If I get another M car to park next to the 1M, it will be an e30 or e46. Not into the newer heavier cars.

Cars like the 1M don't come along all that often. The 2002 tii, the E30 M3 and the 1M all represent, to me, quintessential ultimate driving machines. The M4 will be about as unique as a black E36 M3 in a few years. When I bought my 1M, I kept my black E36 M3 so I would still have a practical four door with adequate trunk space. Besides, I could never get out of it what I have in it, so I may as well drive it into the ground.

M4 looks great, just a bit too big for me to consider it to provide the same kind of fun the 1M offers.

If they can somehow manage to make the m3/4 as light as a 1m I'd 100% consider it. The suspension will be a lot better, the power will be better. If it weighs the same it will be very tossable but have better stability than the 1m due to longer wheelbase.

If I were to do it I'd get the four door M3. I'd want to be able to get a stripper though. Don't want power seats, or sunroof or I-drive or any of that other stuff. Cloth seat option would be cool too!
