No, those are list (MSRP) prices before PDI, Adm, options, PST & GST..
As for "wholesale prices", do you mean dealer cost or dealer invoice prices (net of any dealer holdbacks & incentives)?:iono: I doubt if anyone here would have that info. In any event it'd be a meaningless number for us (the consumer) as I doubt you'll get a dime off MSRP on the 1ers.. |

That's absolutely true, due to the high demand /interests on the 1ers, I don't think dealers would sell for anything less than the MSRP. All I got from my dealer when I ordered my 128i Cabrio, is a 2% (?!) discount for being a long term loyal Bimmer customer.

I remember hearing something about BMW offering a rebate on new vehicles due to the strong Canadian dollar last year, like $3000 off 3 Series models or something. If thats true, do they still offer that or was it a short term promotion? They should do something like that for the 1 Series if thats the case.

I don't think there will be any discounts especially for the first year production cars because it is a sought out car and BMW has done its home work and knows whose gonna buy and how many are going to be sold... if you dont buy it someone else will.. then why bother discount. Now if its a fugly car and no one wants it (some american cars) then you'll see some massive discounts coming down.

fuel excise tax (aka gas guzzler tax) applies to all vehicles that have a combined(city/highway) fuel usage of 13 L/100km or higher. So it dosen't apply to the 1 series.

As to price breaks, do take the time to look into whether being a member of your local BMW club provides a discount.
For the paltry fee of $60 for a Northern Alberta BMW Club membership you'll save an instant 4% off MSRP on any BMW bought through Bavaria BMW in Edmonton. Edmonton BMW may, depending on the car, match. Find all the local BMW clubs within Canada here: http://www.bmwclub.ca/

With all the doom and gloom for the auto sector you would figure BMW would follow suit and drop the insanly high price for the 135i here in Canada.
Officially for 2009 you can now buy an STI in Canada for cheaper than the 135i.. by nearly 2000$. Then work in the fact a well equipped version of the BMW will end up costing close to 65K when everything is said and done while the local subie dealer is accepting offers against thier prices. Anyway, food for thought. The car is fantastic, getting hosed here in Canada for pricing is starting to wear thin. |

Where do you get $65K from? My '08 came with everything but Nav, Active Steering and auto-shift, and it was much less than $50k before taxes. Surely Calgary dealers can't still be expecting to get MSRP in this economy?

It has been a while since I have spoken to any of the dealers here, but they seem unwilling to move more than a few hundred dollars on the MSRP. The 4% discount from the BMW club is nice, but still I think the pricing should allow it to be nicely equipped for under 40K MSRP.
I was reading a comment about a fellow who bought one locally and it come out (final price with tax) to just under 65K. Even when I try to do a budget build on the website without extras like fancy wheels I end up well over 52K trying to work in active steering and a sunroof. Throw in tax and the other extras they charge and you can easily push the final cost over 60K. I am just kind of irked because they were marketing the car as an entry level BMW and it costs just as much as the 3 series in the end. While ever other manufacturer has basically reduced the cost of thier vehicals as much as 25% (more for domestics, but we won't go there) BMW hasn't even moved on thier price. |

BMW had their 18th consecutive increase in sales of vehicles in Canada for 2008 so they aren't quite in the same position as a Ford, Chrysler or GM.
My car with PDI and all taxes in would be around $65K but that's for a fully loaded (except NAV) 135i cabriolet.

And yes, you can buy lower-end 3-Series models for less than the upper-end 1-Series, but again, that's the benefit of having choice. As to BMW Canada's pricing, well, either like or lump it...you don't have to own a BMW, but you may choose too. We went from a low-$20K car to a mid-$50K car and you could argue that the change isn't worth $30K, but again, we chose to and are very happy for having done so.

The big 3 aside; even Subaru, Honda & Toyota have all scaled back both because of the economy and also because the dollar is no longer 70 cents anymore. Even though it has declined from par, I think today it closed at about 85 cents, yet our US counterparts all get a much better deal on the same car.
Anyway, don't get me wrong. I like BMW and I think the car is really fantastic. I wouldn't be signed up for the site & posting if I wasn't thrilled with the styling and performance of the car. Really I was just hoping for a price break that doesn't look like it will be coming for this model. |
