Steering wheel problem

Since I've had the car new the steering wheel hasn't been straight, it is cocked to the side a little. The dealer after a fuss did my alignment for free and found that both front and rear were out. Which is odd, because I had the car for only a month. So a month later my steering wheel I've noticed is not straight, still cocked to the side. Has anyone had this problem? I'm getting somewhat annoyed that I've had the car for 10 weeks and it has been in the shop twice and after I take it in next week three times.

Anyone having this problem????

I've heard of one or two. The steering wheel should be straight. You should tell your dealer to fix it.

I'm going tomorrow to get that exact problem fixed on my car. The steering wheel has been cocked a little bit to the left, and it is very annoying, especially on long trips. My dealer was very accomodating though, probably because I told them I hadn't taken the after-purchase survey yet. My car is not even two weeks old.

Ok, I'm glad I'm not the only one. It is sad but since I got my car December 5th I have had:
*Rear door wouldn't open from inside (how it came from factory)
*Cocked steering wheel
*Allignment thrown out of whack front and rear since new
*ELV warning light coming on twice (saying I couldn't start the car if I turned it off)
*Molding around the passenger window was tucked in and left a streak on the window and I poped it out today and now the molding is wavy.
*Rear door locks make a whining noise whenever it is operated.
*Often the voice command won't work

Does anyone else have all these problems? I thought that if I got a $50k car I wouldn't have this many problems. Maybe it's because it's newer technology? At least I have been patient.

Oh man, I hate to hear that, hopefully you'll get all those fixed, so far I've been lucky.

I have the same problem, althought I believe it was my fault. I hit a big pothole a few weeks ago, and started noticing the car wants to go left 2 weeks ago. It already went thru service last week, and the problem is still there. I am thinking because it was free service since my car only has 1600 miles on it, the dealer didn't do a good job. I am thinking of going back, should I, or just find an alignment specialist shop?

good luck...I am call BMW NA

My steering wheel is off to left. It is very minor, but it bugs me. The dealer did an alignment. They said it was slightly off and now it is within specs. The steering wheel is still off to the left.
The car rides good, and i know all about the crowns in the road and so on. Went for test drive with the SA, he first said it was slighlty off, but not enough to make changes. Then he said, overall the car is within specs and all is fine. Anyone have this issue? Any input?

Thanks.

Whilst I doubt that they would include it in any "free" service package, they should have picked it up on the test drive and recommended an action.

Take it to a specialist tyre outlet which has full electronic alignment equipment. They'll be able to assess it properly and recommend 2 or 4 wheel allignment as appropriate.

....
Sound like they didn't lock the wheel perfectly straight before doing the alignment. Find somebody more attentive (and take this into account when deciding where to tke four car for furure work). I've got no idea what the official BMW specs or procedures are on this, but it can't be right to leave a vehicle like that.

Mine did the same and after they replaced the whole rear suspension and left front suspension the steering wheel is dead centre even on the ugliest of roads.

I'm very happy now!!!

Just a guess but for the door did you check the child safety lock?

Are you saying that BMW NA suggested that you go to another dealership?

I have the same problem. It is slightly off to the right.
I will ask the dealer to fix it and post the result later.
Wish me a luck.

Unlikely the cause was because of hitting a pothole.
Go back to the dealer and ask them to change the technican.

Hitting a pothole can indeed knock the alignment off and/or do other damage to the suspension under the right conditions.

STEERING WHEEL FIXED!

WENT to another BMW center today. They fixed the problem with the steering wheel. They did another alignment and centered the steering wheel as well. Too bad my selling BMW center is not capable of this simple task! I now have a new BMW dealer.
