Salvage with Performance Seats to be auctioned

A new salvage showed up on copart recently with a TBD auction date.
WBSUR9C52BVP75918

https://www.copart.com/lot/53339684/...1m-il-wheeling

This was originally one of the press demonstration cars, which was resold in 2013 after 17k miles of demo use.

Of potential interest to some is that this car has the BMW Performance seats from Recaro with orange color matched stitching and logo, as well as a few other parts like the performance steering wheel and Dinan intake. Curious to see where it ends up with these parts.

Those seats weren't cheap to begin with, and they haven't been available for some time.

Looks like somebody felt confident enough to turn the traction control all the way off...

Oh man that’s sad. No way that’s repairable. Wouldn’t mind using the drivetrain for my e91 though!

It's "live" but it hasn't actually hit the auction line.

There's no keys with the car...that's fun, no idea of the mileage on it or if it runs.

I’d be purchasing it purely for spares.

I’d be purchasing for the seats, headliner and steering rack and would part out the rest. 😁

Dinan IC, intake, and oil cooler setup would fetch nicely.

If you're going for the steering rack, you will need the PS pump and footwell module at a minimum. Probably also need the brake MC/booster setup, ECM, diff, and cluster so you can run MDM.

I might be wrong, but I think if it were a simple 1:1 swap, more people would be doing M3 rack swaps on non-M e8x/e9x.

A lot of people actually do swap them straight in. They just don't run Servotronic which I'm also fine with since mine is track focused.

It's a 1:1 swap. There's a servo dupe you can get which switches it on if you want it. I'm running the M3 rack without any assist and it's wonderful.

It cracks me up how many people will contradict themselves and not realize it.

It may be a 1:1 swap physically, parts having the same dimensions wouldn't surprise me one bit, but you can't point out that a servo dupe (whatever that is) is needed and claim it's a 1:1 swap.

You don't need a servo. The steering is plenty light without it and there are no codes without it plugged in to the system that doesn't exist. The nonM rack doesn't have servo. So for me it was a 1:1 swap when I did the work myself.

I'll leave the impolite comments unsaid.

Cheers.

Seethe some more sweetheart, virtue signaling is for cowards and women.

This post is about a whole car being salvaged. If you skip the necessary parts in this case, it's because you're lazy or don't care enough about your car to do things properly. BMW wouldn't engineer bespoke parts to put the M3 power steering pump in the 1M if it wasn't necessary.

Cool story.

I absolutely encourage people to swap this rack 1:1 if they should choose to do so.

They did it to make the steering easier at low speed for all the women and retirees. Without it you have heavier steering and I very much prefer that. BMW also engineered rubber rear subframe bushing for your beloved 1m, was that the case because it’s the solution for peak feel and performance? Not a chance, it was done for comfort. No disrespect but my 1m converted 135i with the components I have in it will out feel and out perform a 1m in every regard. And I get to drive it because it’s not an appreciating asset, it’s a raw performance vehicle.

LOL, you turds are so entertaining. Measuring yourself by the difficulty in turning a steering wheel is a new one for me. I'm sure your preference for heavier steering defeats the logic of the engineers who designed the car and its components. 1M has all the same bushings as M3, no bespoke engineering there.

Unless you put as much or more tire on your conversion, it will never outperform a 1M; I've owned both cars, but more power to you and your delusions. I daily and mod my 1M, same as I did with the F80, 135i, and swapped E30s before it.

I hope you win the auction and get your conversion more track ready.
