Unhappy toxic concern

Browsing AOL today and had a feature on volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in cars as a health hazard. Alarmed to find out that testing on the 128i vert has an overall rating of 3.9 in a scale of 5 to warrant a "high concern" rating. They did not test the 135i specifically but I suspect that they should be close. Surprisingly, the 3 series rated better (moderate concern). To those interested, follow this link http://www.healthycar.org/vehicle.de...?getrecno=2325 I recall reading a past thread from one of our members who complained of feeling sick everytime he drove his car and he eventually had to let go of the car. There are measures you can take to minimize exposure in the link.

That looks like crap to me. How can a 335i have zero chlorine in the carpets if a 128i has (apparently) some huge amount that pushes the score right up. The data looks highly flawed to me.

The first week I had my car... it gave off a horrible odor. It made me really nauseous. After that, it went away. A lot of other people on the forums experienced the same thing.

I def would like more info on this. The first few weeks with the 1er I almost dozed off everyday on my way home, I actually stopped to get out a few times. I suspected something like this, the odor of fish was awful on hot days. Windows down and a big cup a Joe was my only saving grace.

Ah man, now I'm scared. I hadn't noticed anything but the, "new car" smell when test driving.

My car won't arrive until Dec-Jan, so I hope this isn't a serious concern.

I noticed feeling rather funky the first couple of weeks after a drive. If you park where possible, leave the windows and sunroof open for a month.

I didn't notice any smells that bothered me but the weather was really good the first 3 weeks I had the car so I only had the top up for 1 day in those first weeks.

This is retarded. They have the '08 335i listed with MASSIVE amounts of chlorine in the carpet, yet they have the '08 335xi listed with no chlorine in the carpet...

Unless the awd comes with different carpet, this site is clearly inaccurate.

My boss's ('02 or '03) X5 had a fishy smell in it from the day he bought it until he returned it. I asked him about it and he didn't smell anything. OTOH, I've owned a '99 and an '05 E46 and neither had any funny smells. I'll find out tomorrow about my 135...

Yep. My CA lives in my building and is giving me a ride to the dealership so I can pick it up when they open.
