I'm not aware of any compatibility with the 2008 CCC IDRIVE, my retrofit, is for the 2009 CIC IDRIVE.

Is the new iDrive controller required for the new iDrive system to work?

In other words, will the new '09 iDrive screen work with the old '08 iDrive controller? I personally prefer the cleaner, uncluttered look of just the knob and the single menu button of my '08 setup.

wouldn't it be cheaper to trade it in for a 09 then?

My guess is that it wouldn't given the new menu structure of the 09 iDrive.

And really? I guess I just like having more buttons and I think the knob itself looks a whole lot better.

wow I really like the look of the idrive controler. I thought it would have the sliver in it like the current one.

Looks good. I might just do that mod alone.

I thought that the '09 iDrive controller felt really cheap and flimsy compared to the '08 iDrive controller.

The CCC part number in the 1 Series is the same as in the 3 Series. So if the controller works in the 3 Series it should work in the 1 Series...

I will be testing it in my M3 and in a friend's 1 Series, so if you want just wait until I post my results.

That controller is different, the knob and the buttons are not the same as the one installed in the 2009s... this one has the same P/N and it is the one in the production cars:

what's the status of the Dealer programming (VM number) if your car is not produced with the correct iDrive from the start?

Was really looking forward to this retrofit, but it looks like hope has been lost

This retrofit is on hold due to the monitor not being sold yet.

Oh ok, thanks for the update. I was hoping you hadn't given up on this yet as I'll most likely do this if you can get it completed.

I'm trying to track down the display as well due to my scratches as detailed in my thread. Just got off the phone with the local BMW parts shop. They see 18 of them available for order from Germany with part number 65-82-9-193-751 at a lovely price tag of $2300 *ouch*

so much for doing that retrofit..I was hoping the screen would be around ~1,500

Just curious, that's the 09 model i-drive right?

EDIT: Answered my own question. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...65&fg=45&hl=30

It seems that some of the BMW parts went up in price by around 40% this month... the 1- and the 3-Series new HD monitor alone went up some 50% over the prices posted at the begining of this thread.
