Get it. I'm on my second one and never looking back. Just make sure you get a manual one. My first one was an auto and whilst it's a great box for an auto, it's got nothing on the 6MT.
Check out my build thread if you'd like. There's a link on the first post to Kenny's build which should give you all the info you need on $$$ to kW values for each mod. Quick summary. Tune +E85 and/or meth will give you the most power for the least amount of money. Everything else (chargepipes, FMIC, downpipes) are mostly supportive mods to allow for more consistent power delivery.

I've sold my old car, and so need a new one. It's either a Golf R under warranty, or a 135i out of warranty. Head says Golf, heart says 135i.... |

Surely you cant be serious? The Mk6 R is boring and has big turbo lag, I would get a MK5 R32 or a Mk7 R or even a Mk7gti PP over the mk6 R. The 135i is much more special than a MK6 R. No turbo lag whatsoever and the exhaust note even stock is real not a fabricated one like in the gti/R. FYI I did like the mk6 gti much more drive able day to day than the R. Oh and for the power output the 135i is on par fuel consumption wise with the R.

A 135i will be no more expensive than a VW on part prices. Have you driven a 135i yet? If not get on it that will make your decision for you.
09 135i steptronic bmw ppk & on the freeway I get an average of 7.8lt/100km unfortunately I then get quiet twisty roads 1/2 way home which sees traction control off, DS sport on & fuel economy drop to 10.6lt/100kms but so so worth it. |

My Dad has a 135i so I've spent a bit of time driving one, including a short stint on the track.
Although I agree about parts being a similar price, the R doesn't have known issues like the HPFP, etc, and would be under warranty, so it's a bit of a moot point. |

Fair point under warranty, have a look at this link to give you an indication on part some of the more common replacement parts prices http://www.bmraw.com/1-series-e82-e8...eatured&page=5
There is always ECS for part overseas. Making the decision between your heart & your head is upto you. No they aren't the cheapest on part, but they are a far more rewarding car to own. |

Doesthe mk6 golf R have the artifical sound through the speakers?
I've been in both cars and would consider the Golf R DSG (4 door) if I had kids otherwise the 135i was a much more of a fun car and hence my choice |

Having owned Subaru/VW/BMW Bmw's are really not that bad on price as far as maintance goes, just as expensive as your VW/Audi etc, but you dont buy either of the above mentioned car to save fuel.

Also I've noticed its far cheaper to tune a BMW than a VW/Audi. You can buy a 2nd hand cobb for $500 for ots maps or add $250 for fully custom tune. Not to mention the jb4's etc which are similar or cheaper price. APR's ots MK7 gti tune is $1,650! And they bullshit on their website - at the top of the page it says "peak figures of 235kw and 516nm of torque with 98 octane fuel" but conveniently half way down the page 98 Octane suddenly becomes 98RON.

I get a mix of heavy peak hour traffic for about 50kms of my 128km daily work trip, so when I put my foot into it I'm on open roads & very quiet so that usually makes up for it. I have seen close to 12.8km but that was all urban driving.
