a 235/40/18 is taller then a 255/35/18, and even more so then 245's. On the 1, you actually end up with front fender liner rubbing with the 235's in certain cases. Some people have no issue, while others do, so it's hard to say. But it definitely has to do with the taller diameter.

so what would you say, 245 front and 265 rear if i can find some shorter ones? I don't pay enough attention to tires to know what happens generally, I'm more on the mechanical side then the adhesion side of the automotive world.

245/35 front and 265/35 rear is an excellent combo. Just remember camber plates are mandatory to fit a 245 up front.

you'd need at least -1.8 for them to fit cleanly.

Wow... would -1.8 in the front be considered a lot for daily driving and a track day thrown in every few months?

Seems like it would eat at the inside of the tire in no time and require more frequent off-the-wheel tire rotations. I'd love to run a 245 in the front but don't know if the trade off is worth it.

it's definitely above average. however, with the power of our cars, we'll be wearing through rear tires pretty quick as it is, so it will just even out the wear overall. So instead of just replacing fronts every other time, you'll replace front and rear. But i would recomend that anyways as it keeps rubber fresh all around.

-1.8 isn't really too bad though. I ran -4 on the back of a car for a while, that made a huge difference.... and definitely wore things out, i still managed to get decent mileage however, just not the full life of the tire.

so yes, you will go through tires quicker, but you might lose like 3000 miles at most

-1.8 is not that much actually. The 1 series is a new car so people are afraid of modifying it, and there is a lot of novice misconceptions that spread around. But when you turn to chassis like the E30/36/46 that have been around for a long time, and you see what people do and do not daily drive, you'll see that under -2 degrees is fine all the time if your not just racking up the miles on long commutes.

It's the factory spec toe setting that kills your tires when you have added camber. If these wheels/tires were to be your only set of wheels/tires then you'd want to set your toe to zero. This would eliminate most of the inner tire wear you get on the street.

my e30 has -3.5 all around and I drive to and from track events on r-compounds (usually 100-150 miles each way) and even that gets no noticeable inner street wear with the toe set to zero.

How did the FMIC fit? Much wider than OEM? Install looks good.

As a side note, while retaining the grille won't do much, some protection is nice as over a short time, many small stones and their fragments will become lodged in the fins. It is very tiresome and almost impossible to dislodge them.
no camber plates. FMIC fits great and I'm not worried about the small stones.
