Winter Traction
Having driven only front and AWD vehicles for the past 2 lives, the new E82 is a blast and quite different, and it occurs to me that Winter should be a lot of fun around here if we get one this year.
I know it’s early for this kind of depression but my question is what Northwest owners prefer for a Winter traction setup if any.. I’m considering at a set of inexpensive alloys with a set of Bridgestone WS70 studless ice and snow tires. That and bypass the TPMS (Tire Pressure Management System) and live with the pretty yellow hue on the dash for the season.. I know we occasionally get a crap load of Winter fun, but occasionally it can be downright surly and I would like to be somewhat prepared. I also wonder what others have lying around in the garage leaned up against the spouse’s potting bench for the impending Winter. Bonus points for pics of Winter wheels parked on retired or soon to be donated toddler transportation or sleeping devices. Cheers and bring on the cold. (In good time…) |

I've survied two Seattle winters so far on the OEM runflats, but I dont venture out if the raod are covered with more than an inch. The runflats are also rock hard below freezing and I've had a couple scary moments. Its almost time to replace my RFTs and I'm hoping the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3 will be a good mix of performance and all season.

I've read good things about the pilots as well. I don't font think we get enough snow to justify a dedicated snow tire set up. Like the OP I've always had a fwd or awd car and gotten away with all season fine. The new pilot are suppose to be good in light snow. Might give them a shot.

I also had Pilot Sports on my Prelude and could go anywhere in almost any condition.. It was fun to drive the local roads and watch all of the 4X vehicles in the ditches along the roads.. My only gripe with them was that they were almost, "too" soft in warmer weather. Cheers.. |

17 inch wheels and 225-45-17 blizzaks. no problems what so ever in fresh powder. as long as its below the bumper and I'm not on a hill, no problem. the traction and stability control make it impossible to do something especially retarded. with it off however, prepare for some fun skids and drifts.
