Coolant .different type of color. Help help !!

I woke up this morning to start up my car And I got message displayed "coolant low " .I hAd no time to go to BMW and I went to my nearby gas station. We opened the coolant tank and was barely coolant inside. The guy that worked there put a red type of coolant inside. And I was told that I can put red or blue type of coolant in this car not green.my question is : is it ok that I did not go to BMW and it is safe that I put this type of coolant?

RED colored coolant is probably VAG (VW/Audi) spec.

The proper BMW coolant is dark blue/green in color. I recently added some coolant to my expansion tank bc it was getting low. No the light was not on. But still I wanted to top things up. The engine was cold when I did so. I was kind of shocked that I had to add 1/2 liter of coolant! AND the LOW COOLANT light was not even on!

This is the proper BMW coolant:

You will not have any problem at all. Now go and worry about the economy and not the Anti Freeze!
