I know that my mom's does, because it has happened more than once at valets. it starts dinging "key not recognized" for a few minutes until it immobilizes. so you probably shouldn't tell someone they're wrong when it has happened to them multiple times. ALSO, the newer keyless entry cars anyways have sensors that can tell when the key is actually inside of the car or outside of the car. That's how they have the feature where you can't lock the car when the keys are inside. but for the people who drove around the block, try driving for a while longer and see how that goes? |

FYI a valet took my car, without the keys.....5 min later he was back telling me the car shut off and he needed em to move it. So...there is some kindof time limit on how long you can drive without keys.

Surely the other caveat is that if the auto-shut off on the pump is broken, you have a fuel covered X5 and forecourt? ;-)
Is that legal in the US - leaving a car fueling unattended?

I believe the car will continue to run indefinitely without the key fob in the car. However, a warning lamp indicates that if the engine is shut off, it must be restarted within 10 seconds.
