Do you have separate wheels for winter use?
As the question says, do you guys run separate wheels/tires in the winter, or do you stick with the stock rims?

I couldn't answer the poll unless I could punch 2 buttons - I have a set of 4 Style 182 wheels in 7.5 x 18 (2 same size, 2 smaller.) I chose that combination because there wasn't a set of stock size staggered winter tires available at the time. I went with the same size all around, and they worked out well for me - even if the rears didn't quite fill up the wheel well.
Have Fun, Rick

Interesting results. I think I need to now consider a new set of wheels for the winter, 17's I guess. Or maybe I can just use my stock 18's in the winter and buy a new set of summer rims that I've wanted.

I'll be putting snow tires on the stock wheels and getting some after market wheels for summer use.

Im running stock rims in the winter. I'm saving my money for nice flashsy rims in the summer. Looking for 313s come next summer when I have some cash on hand.
Had no issues on my 18" winter performance rfts. (I only choose rfts because I didn't want to cahnge a tire on a 10 degree day) Last edited by BrokenVert; 07-18-2009 at 12:18 AM.. |

I considered using the stock 18" wheels for winter and getting "neater" OZ or Breyton wheels for summer, but I ultimately decided to go with 17" wheels for winter to give me a little more tire protection over winter potholes and frost heaves. I ended up with Sport Edition KM 11s and Blizzak WS 60s.

Sorry, should have thought about all-season people and less common setups. This is really for the general masses , but yeah, choose "I don't run tires" if you use all-seasons year round.
I think I'm going to use my 264's (18") come winter, as I don't expect to be doing that much driving in really harsh conditions (we have other cars in my family, and I work from home most of the time). I would love to buy the 269's for summer, I'm debating if I should do it this year or wait til next (I'll probably wait). |

I could, but it seems that would imply that I'm just running my sprt pkg summer tires.
It doesn't matter though. Most people don't run high performance all seasons around here from what I've seen. I think they're missing out on some excellent performance for 90% of the winter when the roads are clear and the temps are cold, which makes for great power, especially in a turbo. I just don't need winter tires around here. If you know how to drive a RWD car, you're fine with AS tires on those bad weather/road days. Ah, I see OP says to answer "no". I will. |

It's illegal NOT to run dedicated winter tires here in Quebec. So some people can't run all-seasons year round

winter tires
Well in my case I'm using the factory wheels with good year winter tires. I think is the perfect set up if you want after market summer wheels.

I don’t use winter tires on my 135i. I have a 2006 Tacoma 4x4 with Stability control and separate wheels/tires for summer and winter. I ski 3 – 4 days a week in the winter and hardly ever miss a powder day so I need a vehicle that can plow through snow to be one of the first on the mountain. Even with snow tires on the 135i it would not work so it stays home on winter days. I still drive the 135i in the winter on nice days but if the temperature is below 40 deg. F the stock runflat tires get really slippery on dry pavement.
