Short shifter
So i've been looking for a short shifter for the n55 for a while now and have only only come across several 300$ ones that are a bit out of budget. Found out recently that the e90 328i ssk lever works with our cars too so I jumped on that along with a ZHP knob from Tischer. All I can say is the lever is the best bang for the buck mod and really completes the driving experience with a much more solid shifting action.
The ZHP is also another really nice upgrade from the oem plastic cheap crap knob for a decent price (60 again). Some pics: e90 ssk top n55 bot n55 looks shorter but if you ignore the bottom part below the ball the e90 lever is a bit shorter Neutral 1st 2nd ZHP

the e90/92 lever DIY Guide, its roughly the same as this one, http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102808 the little clip is a bit different but you'll be able to figure it out. I've done this job on other people's cars before and it usually takes about less than an hour to finish. tricky parts are getting the clip off and taking out the plastic round ring that the ball sits in.

Congrats on having the guts to do this mod on a N55. I think you are the first one!! I always thought you could use any bmw shift lever on a N55. I think you could even use a N54 one. ?
Can you measure the throws from 1st to 2nd or 3rd to 4th. ? Here is what I have found out... stock N54 = 80 mm's Perf SSK = 55 mm's stock N55 = 70 mm's

So after driving around today I noticed Im stuttering a tiny bit when I start in 1st. I know it may be my driving but I don't have the tendency to stutter when I start in 1st usually so I am wondering if the shifter is the problem. Other than that everything is still normal so anyone interested may want to hold off a bit

Is your clutch slipping? Or juddering?

its a bit less noticible now but i can kinda feel the whole car shudder once or twice when im starting from a red line and before my clutch is completely disengaged. its not a huge stutter like as if you're stalling the car but similar. Need to research more on how the shifter could've possibly affected this. or maybe its not related to this at all lol
Any insights will be helpful!

Sifter is not related to clutch slippage or warping. You probably just have some hot spots on your flywheel from over enthusiastic driving.
Now its time to delete that CDV and enjoy shifting gears.

hmm its weird though cuz I got rid of the cdv a long time ago. I also can't see how the shifter can affect this. The car is in gear properly but then it does this.. may have to revert and see if it still does it

You probably just "glazed" your clutch and its causing some slight juddering now. Just drive it normal and don't slip it. That should burn off the glazing after some normal driving.

Zhp knob is a must, best weighting and better feel than performance knob.
