Shifting sluggish w\AC on...

Hi all

I know the engine takes a little hit when the AC is on, but the shifting gets a little clunky (manual) more than normal. I'm just checking to see if this is normal for everybody or if I should have my car checked out...

My E90 does not take any percievable hit with the AC on. This is the first BMW that I have owned (e36 & e46) that works in this way. The e36 & 46 were hit hard with the AC on.

The E90 is wonderful that way - and in so very many other ways as well.

When the AC is on there is more drag on the engine and as a result the rpms will drop a bit faster in between shifts. This means when the ac is on, you need to let the clutch out a bit faster then you are used to and that will smooth out the shifts.

no shift issues with the steptronic and ac on. only idle revs sit at about 600-650 instead of 550 with ac off.

Definately true... I need to think alittle about this when I get in the car in the afternoon when it's alittle hot and the AC kicks on just to change my foot-work slightly. An ever so slight pressure on the gas pedal while the clutch is in will make the RPM's drop at a slower rate to complete the shift smoothly. Just need to remember that, so it usually takes the intial 1-2 jerky shift to kick the brain in gear.

My grandmother doesn't have any shift issues with steptronic either.

When I have my stereo on real loud, my laptop plugged in, A/C on full blast, my car also seems alittle sluggish...

I wonder why...
