The BMW Switch is a fun collaborative project between the public and BMW Asia to switch unsuspecting BMW drivers' current cars with a similar model that has been enhanced with original BMW Performance Accessories. Now open for nominations, BMW aims to let BMW drivers experience firsthand the power and exhilaration of driving an enhanced BMW Performance edition -- and have a great story to tell afterwards.

The owner doesn't get to "keep" the modded car. It sounds like it's just a switch to trick the victim into thinking it's his/her car, but it's similar car that is modified. To give him/her the "experience" of what it's like...and in this case, to give her a feel for what her car is like with an BMW Perf exhaust & PPK.

I believe she was completely clueless. Cold startup on a 1er on a modified exhaust is extremely loud, even louder in close space or a parking garage, even the most absent minded would notice the difference. As far as feeling the performance, could be a bit of persuasion from the exhaust sound and the placebo of knowing it was modded. Hopefully they ended up installing the parts on her own car.

I think few people would fail to notice that amount of change in exhaust note.

It's likely that the marketing company and BMW NA would be sued if this was to happen in the states. The owner of the car would totally need compensation for all those mental stress/trauma caused by the thought of his/her car being stolen. Not to mention it's totally illegal to drive away someone else's car without the owner's express permission.

Some other auto blog web site has blogged this Toyota prank marketing campaign getting sued just not very long ago.

IMO the Toyota prank marketing took things a little to far compared to this. This lady was under distress with her BMW for 5 minutes? The Toyota prank went on for weeks.

I don't get moving it to a different lot? Is it because they thought there was a good chance she wouldn't notice the difference? Her reaction from the exaust note was good enough, no reason to make her think her car was stolen. To me, this took away from purpose of the switch.
