got mine replaced for free under warranty. (got car with 20k miles, small scratch from previous owner) if you scratch off the coating, honestly it is your fault. that coating material is annoying but the finish it creates is really nice, probably why they keep using it. just be aware of it. sold my e46 with 150k miles and the interior looked like it had just come off the assembly line. got in a friends with 40k and all of the rubber coatings EVERYwhere looked like a nightmare. like what is wrong with people.... or the driver's bolsters... like just get in your car carefully. Again, 150k on my e46, bolster like new. entire car like new. Macbook pro, not a scratch on it, 2 year ownership, iphone no case, no scratches, never dropped. It's all physics.... idk. people are clumsy.

If you are within warranty it is absolutely covered. Even if yourr'e not, a good dealership will change it for you for free (mine did).

I guess we can all chalk up Tucson BMW as not being one of those good dealerships! Wish there was another one close by that I could go to but it's an hour and a half drive away! FML!!!!

Have just noticed this issue on mine. Was going to add it to the list for my final before warranty end service.

Hope you have better luck than me! I just got done sending off an email to the SA I dealt with. I filled him in on how all you guys had no issue getting your trim replaced under warranty. I even asked him to send me the Regional Service Advisors email address so I could discuss this issue with him. I'll keep you posted. All I really want them to do now is install the Carbon Fiber piece I just bought so I won't have to worry about the paint peeling off of the new piece they should have replaced for me.

Get them to replace the peeling one with a new one. Then take it home and switch is yourself to the carbon fiber one. Then just sell the one you got from the dealer for free. This equals new free carbon fiber!

Good idea....Is it hard to replace the trim piece? I hate the fact I have to mess with the airbag?

Couldn't be more simple. 3 bolts, 2 clips and 2 springs to eject the airbag. Just disconnect your battery and press on the brake for 5 seconds before doing anything and you'll be fine.
