Getting my deposit back?
God forbid should I back out of this amazing car.. but I have, yet another question to poll from our experts here on the forum.
I've got a $1K deposit on the car. It IS custom, and just going into production now. Is it possible to get my deposit back? My dealer mentioned it was transferable. On the sheet, we made a separate line that says "Subject to test drive" and is signed by the salesperson, but I believe he meant that in reference to transferability--but it IS on a different line. What do you guys think?

^^6 you should get it back. I believe it's Law that if the car isn't delivered with in 90 days you can back out.
Also, the subject to a test drive helps you out too. Simply say you don't like the drive. If the dealer has any integrity he should give it back without much fuss. With that said, most dealers are a pain in the but and getting your deposit back often takes some coercion. |

Pretty sure its refundable Stefan, I wouldn't worry too much about that. Its not like the car is pink or anything so especially in Calgary, I'm pretty sure they won't have any problems selling it.
My SA at Calgary BMW also mentioned that people ordering cars and then things simply not working out when it arrives does happen and they do refund the deposits.

That's good to hear .... I'm also seriously considering jumping ship. A 3er is becoming a lot more attractive at 2.9%.

I mentioned this in another thread already:
"If the dealer refuses to refund your deposit you simply call your credit card company and have them do a charge back (no delivery of goods, price not agreeable, charge slip not signed - this is the big one, regular merchant agreements FORBID keying in a credit card without taking a manual imprint of the card at the same time, a store can lose it's merchant account if they get caught doing this [as an aside, if they are setup for a virtual terminal/web orders they can accept credit cards over the phone legally])."

Wow thanks guys.. Again.. I'm shocked at the amount of knowledge on this board. At 2.9, the 335i is looking pretty damn good.

It does make a 335 coupe look pretty good, with a couple less options I could pick one up for about as much as my 135 on a monthly basis. Its just so big...

I've never actually financed a car through a dealership before. Typically, is the rate always fixed, or is there a way to get a variable rate. If the rate goes down next year, will I be able to take advantage of that? Or am I locked in at the 6.75% or more that I started with?

I understand what you guys are saying about the the 3 being big. I feel the same way, but I think it's just part of the evolution of the car. I don't think of it as big, I consider it more grown up. |

True enough, inevitably most cars get bigger as they evolve. As the car's market ages, for the most part so do the points of the car's appeal. Certainly the reviews would be less than stellar if the 3er's interior room somehow got smaller (I know thats a bit of an extreme). I think the best example of that is Saturn, when they first came out they were these really affordable, plastic cars. They've certainly departed from that now though because those 20-somethings who first bought those cars are now 30 or 40 and are looking for something more grown up (be it a family sedan or a little roadster). So the manufacturer always has to ask whether they want to do the easy thing and grow the car to reflect your customer's changing tastes (even if it means a departure from the original roots of the car or product), or do the hard thing and make sure your car maintains its a appeal to that younger audience so your product has staying power with that fixed demographic. Most manufacturer's opt to simply grow the car and slot something in for the younger audience later (ie; BMW). I think the Mazda Miata is probably the one of the only cars thats grown only marginally with age.

Can't agree with you more. Thats exactly why the 1 is coming in as the new entry level car. In terms of the miata, while it hasn't grown much in terms of size the materials used inside are definitely more an improvement and have probably increased in weight slightly... |

BMW Financial will give you the lowest rate they offer at the time of the deal. Once that rate is locked then it's fixed until you end of term or you refiance. |
