Installed the M3 subframe bushings today. Didn't have much of a chance to drive yet, but there certainly is a bit of an increase of NVH. Will report back when I get it on some twisty bits warmed up.

In 10 years, when all of the 135i's have expired, the 128i will be the enthusiasts choice as the last classic BMW.

The 135i's will either expire due to reliability or will be beat to crap by their owners. Enthusiast-loved 128i's will be manual, have the visual bits (m-sport, etc) and some minor tweaks. They will run like sewing machines.

Give it a few years.

If anyone is ever looking for some quality bushings and OEM parts, a local business from my old hometown is the place to go. They do top notch work and have some great prices to go with it.

For me, I found the NVH a little annoying at first. It accentuated my dash creek to a full blown rattle, but totally worth it to keep that rear end planted..

The first time I felt their worth was pulling out of an elevated parking lot. As I rolled through an embarkment that merged to the street, going about 10mph, there was a noticeable amount of weight transfer and yaw as I floored it in a slight rotation. Admit-ably surprised, the car took the weight transfer and power with a new found waft of professionalism. I guess I've gotten so used to the stock bushings that I never really understood how crappy they made the car feel in tight, point-and-shoot type driving. It's one of those Eureka moments where you think, "HOW have I been living without this for SO long?"

Love this mod.

I haven't had a chance to properly cane it through the corners yet, but I was also completely blown away by the difference it made in power application and rear stability when WOT. The back end now feels like a completely different car. Smooth, direct, focused, and slop free would be the best description of putting your foot down now out of turns or from a stop. The shimmy the car liked to do, especially with the additional power it has now, is completely gone.

Install wasn't too bad. Unlike earlier models like the E46, the subframe of the E82 can stay in the car when installing the bushings, so the process wasn't too lengthy. Stock bushings came out easily, but with that much play in them I don't see how they couldn't. ///M bushings certainly required more torque, but went in pretty well. Using a good grease like CV-2 on the press will help immensely. Fronts will be interesting when it comes time to remove them as they are now installed/removed from the top. Limited access will make that a fun job.

No new rattles as a result, but the car is definitely 5%-10% louder inside. Anyone who says otherwise is just kidding themselves.

Just another great mod with stock reliability for a good car.

Well, in my case I'd say it would take a calibrated decibel meter to even tell the difference. I'm not kidding. Then again, my car has only ~4100 miles on it. Perhaps what you're hearing is an accentuation of your old rattles.

Not rattles, a bit more road noise. My rattles remain the same.

Eh. My 128i is full of issues I don't think it will make it past 100k. Engine wise yes, I've had 0 problems. But the electrical gremlins affect all 1 series

I'm currently at 62000. Put about 5k on the first month driving from NC to FL then to MI. Now that I'm back for a while, I'd like to try and tackle this hiccup when the A/C is on. Other than that I haven't had any problems other than the creaking plastic interior. Motor seems to pull pretty hard at WOT, definitely a torqey son of a gun coming out of first gear.

BMW in general are annoying with AC problems. I don't use mine because it just plain makes it more difficult to shift smoothly and i don't like the load it puts on the motor at idle rpm.

FWIW, i really love the 128i. It's the reason why i even fell in love with the 1er in the first place.....as i had a 10 minute test drive in the 128i which just made me smile and get all happy!!

The only reason i got the 135is is because i really loved the idea of a limited production special version of the 1-series....and with pricing a 128i the way i wanted it equipped, i was dangerously getting into 135i/135is territory. I think the 128i is a great car, but heavily equipped is really not the way to buy it. If i was buying a 128i, i'd buy it stripped and basic.......and just drive the pants off it.

I usually never run the A/C, but it has been ridiculously humid lately, and if I don't have A/C, by the time I get home from my hour commute in the sun, the black leather extracts every ounce of sweat through my back.

I have 3 options, heated seated, electric seats, sunroof. I wish i didnt have the sunroof

I agree, the heatwave last week in NY was insane, 98+ degree's all week. Thats the only time i've used my AC.

Xenons and Msport would be nice additions to that.

Xenons were a $4500 option, $900 Lighting Package + $3600 Premium Package. Xenons are good, but not $4500 good. To be honest, I think the halogens look better. Not a fan of angel eyes; they're a little too ricey for me. Might as well throw on some Altezza tails. What else can the designers do, though, to make them proportional to the car?

Like the output, though. Would have paid the $900 (especially if they didn't have the Adaptive Light Control. I still have high beams)

I agree, I would have considered the Xenons, but not for $4500. Only options I have are heated seats, M-Sport and coral red leather. I had no desire for a heavy sunroof that I would never use, or power seats, since I much prefer the feel and adjustment of manual seats. I think the Sport seats are an absolute must though.

Hey everyone, new member, potential new 1 series owner soon. I couldn't start my own thread since I just joined so I figured this might be a good place to start as it looks pretty active.

Looking for some advice, I'll keep it short and sweet:

'08 128i, 6spd, leather, sunroof.

Car has 97K, maintenance records on hand. Owner told me it was in one small accident in a parking lot which required replacement of pass fender.

We've settled on a price of $11Gs.

So, which is it:
-Shut up and take my money?!?!

-RUN......AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!

-More info required...
