With a $600 accessport I’m already at 340/340 at the flywheel, with 3 diffs and AWD, plus I can drive in the snow without worrying the tail will come around as easily (I’ve driven light RWD cars with snow tires, yes you can get around but the tail is very happy).

Add in the fact that Boss 302 with Recaros and 440hp will be cheaper and this will be an even smaller niche seller. I’m sure BMW expects that and they have spent accordingly in the development of the 1 M.

I will definitely test drive one if dealers allow it. I’ll probably still go with an M3 sedan unless they want to do a 4 door 1M hatch.
Its not just about 'people who want a M in their garage and this will be the cheapest way to do it".

This car should be closer to what an M car should be.

There is no license to "bitch". There is no problem with expressing an opinion on a topic relevant to the thread on a public forum.

And yes, the stock 135i tops out at 306HP (about 260whp).

Ok, then don't drive it. But opinion based solely on conjecture is frequently also known as horseshit.

Mine was a bit stronger stock, but it was also an early build, so .

That is what the N54 in the 135 is rated at, but there have been a few dyno tests on stock vehicles showing the whp to be between 280-290. It's not uncommon for BMW or other manufacturers for that matter to underrate their engines.

That is pretty high, DynoJet?

Remember there are lots of variables to that.

I could quote Mustang Dyno numbers and it would be a lot lower, around 240whp.

My point is, I want more power, and there is nothing wrong with that. Looks like I will have to turn to the aftermarket.

No doubt it will drive great stock.

Why would I not drive it?

Opinion based solely on conjecture? No, it's based on my history driving vehicles, my technical knowledge and the data presented so far.....

You are telling me that if they said it was going to make 100HP and weigh the same that you wouldn't assume it to be slow?

Running 13s and 12s in the 1/4 mile @ around 110MPH isn't fast, in my opinion.

And no, that doesn't mean I only care about 1/4 time and trap speed, or that I expected the 1M to be a "drag car".

So is the whole dash alcantara or is it just the gauge hood? In the shot where it shows the assembly line robot placing the dash in the car, the rest of the dash looks the same as the 135i.

Also, I dont see a CSL style trunk lid. Then again there arent many good shots of the trunk in the video.

We will see soon!

Hopefully the info released at 6 today will show EVERY little detail of the car!

I'm sure there will be pictures soon, but it is not the entire dash, just the gauge pod and the strip of trim that runs horizontally.

True, there are a lot of variables and I don't recall which dynos were used in the tests. They should be posted in the various forums here if we get bored and want to search.

This is a terrible comparison. The build quality on the STi/Evo are total garbage. You buy a BMW because you want the feel of a BMW not the uninvolving boring feel of a Subaru. Trust me, I owned a 2009 STi for 11,000km. I bought it because it made a ton of sense, as you said. Great performance specs, Stage 1 AP was spectacular, AWD, and utilitarian. BUT.. utterly boring to drive.. nowhere near the intimacy of an M car. And, my interior was already falling apart at 9,000km with crappy FNF and bad quality materials.

why are people so mad about the horsepower rating?

If you seriously don't like it, get a tune that is bound to come up. If the engine is upgraded(maybe better turbos), then getting 400+ with just tune itself is feasible

Some German tuners have been lent the cannibalized 135i/1M mules for a look-see before they are crushed.

respect your opinion, but IMO most of the cat's here are not trying to turn there
cars into quarter mile track beasts. BALANCE on the street and for some on the track with looks and style and NOW the 1M with M3 suspension will no doubt be very exciting ride. My JB3 Map5 135 is plenty fast for me...In relation obviously a M3 or GTR are not fast enough for you either....Give me a refined balanced, fast well handling car like the 1M and i would be very happy doing 12.5 runs...but i do not track my car in quarter mile blasts...
I REALLY DIG THE NEW 1M and will be test driving it asap and possibly even buying one....

He obviously doesn't track his car. BMWs are designed to quick around a track while providing high fun factor. If you want power; get a mustang. In my E46 M3 I have no need for extra power at the track.. it's more than enough.

You are right! The first thing I would do with a GTR is Tune, intercoolers, turbo-back, intake, etc. I have been in one at autoX, and to me it accelerated similar to a C5 Z06, and felt like a hovercar.

The M3 is too expensive to get where I want.

The 1M is perfect. Throw on CP-E's new port injection fuel rail and turbo kit and I will be right around mid 500whp on PUMP GAS!

It will be VERY satisfying!
