is it they are polycarbonate lense? they will not scratch on day to day cleaning..

Also remember that the plastic headlights can be polished of imperfections fairly easily, with a little elbow grease.

I've tried in the past to polish. However, I had limited success. I've used these type covers on my E46 and it really made the headlights hold up. (I can't rememeber the vendor hence the posting).

The stuff I used was a thick plastic (very flexible) type material. It felt like clear rubber. The nice thing about it was that road junk bounced off it rather than scratch like regular polycarbonate.

On my E34 I had to replace the lenses (they were glass) because after a couple of years they looked as though they had been sand blasted.
