135i UK sales numbers summary
Just thought I’d pen a few words about the relative rarity of the 135i over here in the UK (largely due to our fuel costs no doubt – people wanting frugal diesel engine 1 Series over the noise and power of a 3 litre turbo petrol)
Anyway, with the data now available up to the end of E82/E88 sales I’ve had a trawl through the new registrations listings posted by our UK vehicle licence dept (DVLA) that holds the data for UK registrations. The cross-over between N54 and N55 numbers is a slight approximation, but will only be out by a handful either way, as the UK data is based on Q1,Q2 etc of the calendar year, and the N54/N55 change over was almost right on the Q1/Q2 border so maybe a few N55 number are N54 but given the total number involved here, it’s literally a handful of cars. Unfortunately, there’s no split between coupe and vert’s as for some reason, unlike other BMW verts, the 1 Series was not spilt in first registration naming convention by the DVLA. However, verts are very rare over here in 135i guise and of the 50-60 135i owners that have ‘registered’ on the UK forum, only 3 were ‘verts. The numbers against years are for cars registered new (first given a licence plate) and correspond to calendar years not model years, as model year is a USA only designation. The Sport Edition cars are the same as the USA 135iS in spec except without the PPKv2 & BMWPE fitted.
