Has there been any confirmation that there's a possibility the mod can't be reversed in the sense that the hose is re-connected/unkinked and the exhaust flap still stays open? I was going to do the mod yesterday when I realized that my exhaust flap is always open. My car was previous leased before I bought it so I wouldn't be surprised if the previous owner did the mod and later reversed it.

I just did the golf tee mod and love it! It was super easy, I did it right in the advanced auto parts parking lot (good place to get the parts).

I used a 3/16 male connecter and 3/16 plug to plug the hose. I attempted to use a 3/16 plug on the nipple of the actuator but it was way too lose so I used a 1/8 plug on there and it fit perfectly. Then I just zip tied the hose out of the way. If you are observant you will notice a considerable volume change in the exhaust below 3,000 rpm. Don't expect anything different above 3,000 rpm.

Anyone debating this mod, don't hesitate to do it. The whole process took less than 5 minutes and is easily reversible (using this method).

Very happy with the results! Let me know if anyone wants pics or video.

What is the major difference between the PE and the standard one? Is the muffler the same? What happens to the vacuum hose when a PE is installed? Do they insert any code that tells the cars a PE in installed?

The difference between the PE and OEM 135i exhaust is simply the design of the muffler in the PE. The diameter of the piping is exactly the same as OEM. The only real gain you get from the PE is sound and maybe 1-2 hp.

I heard you could use JB4 to do this mod... any truth to this?

Yes on stage 2, it's "CAN active". http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showpo...08&postcount=1

I believe that regardless of N55 or N54 you just have to be using Stage 2 JB4.

I'm unsure of what the stages are of N54. I'm looking at the BMS website and haven't seen anything yet on it.

I'm guessing what ever stage for N54 allows for you to have steering wheel controls is what you would need.

Are you referring to the black hose pipe? If so, yes it pull straight out.

The better way to do the golf tee mod imo is to disconnect the electric connector inside the boot. Either way the golf tee mod only makes a tiny difference. Get yourself a BMWP Exhaust!

Ok so I've been thinking about doing this. The other day in an underground garage I fired the car, got out, melt down and pinched the pipe closed as if there was a zip tie to see if I could hear the flap and there be any difference.

I heard no difference at all. Does the hose have to be blocked while the engine is off?

No you can do this with the engine on. Make sure you pinch it good. I just did this the other day and had to flex and wiggle my hose around to get it to pinch correctly. Its not a really noticeable difference in sound. I have PPK 1 and with this easy mod she really growls... but cant give you feedback on how it sounds without PPK 1.

Interesting. I'll give it another go and see if I wasn't pinching enough. If all else fails I'll just pull the hose off.

If you pull the hose off, you'll get a CEL because of the vacuum leak. You have to plug it if you pull it off entirely.

Apologies if that was your intent, but figured I'd give you a heads up

I totally forgot and turned in my lease with the mod still done. Whoops!

So if I wanted to use actual golf tees, would I just stick one in the hose and one in the nozzle?

Not sure if it was mentioned earlier but you can just unplug the solenoid in the trunk and have the same effect with much less effort

Just the hose. I took your standard golf tee, plugged the hose, and stuffed the hose up above the heat shield.

You do notice a difference at low RPM. It's not a performance exhaust but it's a lot cheaper.

Thanks, I'll give that a go and see if I can hear the difference.

Did this with the cable in the trunk method. No CEL on dash and no CEL on my BT code reader. Once i get my JB4 I'll see if it throws any codes there. Not too worried about it. Easy enough to just plug in before going to the dealer if need be. Took all of 2 minutes.

No codes with jb4 for me. I think this is a much easier method

After almost a year of ownership including one winter season, I noticed after long highway drives that one of the two tail pipes had salt caked on it, while the other pipe (left side) was wet. Basically, under light load, the flap closes the left tail pipe (only the right tail pipe carries exhaust flows). The left tail pipe only opens for a short duration and startup (and closes when you hear the click), and during heavy acceleration.

I pinched the rubber tube and tied it with a zip tie (like the picture posted a few posts ago) so that it remains pinched. The result is that the flap remains open and exhaust gazes flows through both tail pipes at all times.

At idle, hard to tell the difference, but under light or medium throttle input, you can hear a bit more of the stock exhaust. Fantastic!

Cut the zip tie and you are back to stock!
