Your mom just bought a 1 series.

You fly back home from college for winter break and your mom picks you up at the airport in a 128i. What would you do?

My Mom did do that! But it was a 135i vert with DCT. I was pleased with her decision.

Ask politely if you can drive it, then gun it and take some turns with some courage.

My mom owns a 2011 135i DCT, and driving it is what influenced my decision to buy mine!

Seeing as my father and mother both drive E46s, be happy they own good things.

haha. Awesome. My dad and mom are so not cool. Dad drives 2011 SLK350, mom drives 2012 Infiniti ex35. . Even driving the SLK doesn't feel as well balanced or as controlled as the 1-series.

But to stay on topic. If my mom picked me up in a 1-series I'd steal it because she knows nothing about cars except what colour she wants.

People can be converted. My fiance went from a slushbox Honda Pilot to a manual ZHP. My mother went from a Suburban to an E46 wagon. My father went from a Silverado to an E46 sedan. You just need to open their eyes to a world beyond A-B transport.

That's the problem. Every car is A-B transport for my mom. My dad is into cars, but doesn't have the time to really learn about them. He goes to those Mercedes drives and stuff like that, but that's the extent of it.

I don't feel like converting them anyway haha.

Rejoice in the fact that your mom is still around and made a great choice in her personal car.

The real story.

I came home from college in 1974 and my mom bought a 2002 tii. Later, we all bought BMW's as seen parked in my parents driveway. Mom's BMW was a sexy, fjord blue. It rusted away from the Chicago and Philadelphia winters.

Oh man.

That's too bad. Rust is a car killer. I'm currently looking at a 76 2002. It's restored with Ireland cams and headers. New carbs etc. is $9000 too much to pay?

What about $5000 for one that is not modified, but who knows what else is wrong with it.

That's a good price if you are excited about it. Yeah, we yanks like allot of salt on our roads. Mom's was sold for $4,500 in the early 80's.
