Indoor exhaust sounds are always missleading IMO, it was probably recorded anyway and played back through the Audio system.

Turbo's spin at idle simply because they do in every turbocharged car, but the exhaust gas flow is not enough to keep them spooled to where you can hear them...this is not a supercharged system.

Also, proof of this is the other video from a different angle where the sound cannot be heard. Either way, please do provide the information where it has been brought to your attention that the turbo's spool at idle...again, notice my choice of words - they DO spin at idle, but they DO NOT spool up at idle, meaning they do not spin fast enough to start compressing air.

Lastly, turbocharged systems are in a vacuum state while at idle, so, if the car were to come equipped with a boost gauge, the needle would be under 0 (also known as vacuum). I am willing to bet that the first person to put a boost gauge on a 1M will be able to prove that the needle will not be at 0 or greater than 0, which confirms that the turbo's are not spooling at idle.

Not going to judge it based off the stock sound +possible cold start. A majority of 135i owners and M3 owners fit aftermarket exhausts anyways. This thing with an Akra will just be heavenly

Have a listen to the M-lady talk about the car over at both bmwblog.com and bimmerfile.com (I am not entirely sure about bimmerfile). But she goes on to speak about how the turbos have been modified in such a way that they provide a more instantaneous reaction to throttle input.

Correct: no throttle = no spooling, end of story. In fact, e92 M3's are notorious for the same sound and they are not force-inducted from factory. Here, I just made a quick search of a random M3, listen to it rev up and you will hear similar whistling/whining. What you hear is belt-driven, just like in the video on this thread, and no the sound is not coming from the aftermarket exhaust, a stock M3 emits the same sound:

You do realize that car is not supercharged right? Feel free to make a search of your own of a free revving e92 m3, all of them sound the same, specially from the front area.

i'm not sure what you're referring to. look at my last post. i'm not contesting whether it's a sound from the turbo (that's up for debate): only that the sound's not coming from the camera/recording device (which was your argument), but from the car, "whatever it is."

(my original quote: we'll have to agree to disagree. etymotics say you're wrong. 5:15 doesn't have the same sound. whatever it is, it ain't coming from the camera.)

please try to read all of my posts before you start trying to pick my arguments apart. this is the second time, where we're on completely different pages.

There are so many things spinning in an engine, why does it exactly have to be the turbos, we're hearing?
I can hear the turbo in my car under some circumstances, when it's building up the pressure (low rev, 4th gear driving beside a wall), but in idle? No. There are more other things to hear in idle than the turbo(s).

The point is the sound from the M3 vid posted by 1SerieStud is the same heard in the 1M video. No matter how great your headphones are the sound you hear is not that of the turbos spooling.

If I were to ED this car, I would want this music played when on the Welt turntable under spotlight!

my god. read what i just wrote and then rewrote for you as clarification. i'm not debating that. that wasn't my point. you're fighting an argument with a person who is not even on the opposing side.

let's summarize:
1. On my OP, I said: it sounds like turbo whine.
2. You said: there's no sound coming from the car. It's coming from the camera. You then referenced another point in the video, which you thought captured the camera making the same noise.
3. I said: no, my earphones pick up something that's definitely a different sound from that other time you referenced in the video. The sound is coming from the car (not the camera). Whatever component that is is up for debate. Now, this could be turbo, belt, whatever. I wasn't deadset on it being turbo-sourced.
4. If you still think I'm saying this is definitely a turbo sound, read this again. Then go read all my other posts again.

If you go on BMW USA's main webpage, you can hear the 1///M's engine revving (as the 6 banners rotate every few seconds). Skip to banner 3 out of 6. I am sure it was edited, and it appears from inside the cabin, so take it for what it's worth.
