Exhaust Whine Through Speakers when A/C is on

So I noticed this whining noise coming through my speakers that mimics the revs as they go up and down, and it only happens when the A/C is on. Anyone know if this can be eliminated?

That's alternator noise

have you have anything plugged into the aux input and like a phone and charging it of the cigarette lighter socket as that will cause a ground loop and make that sound ?

Make sure nothing is connected to the stereo and see if it still makes that noise

Sometimes when the voltage regulator in the alternator is going bad it can make this noise and also when your battery is on its last legs and the alternator is working overtime to keep your battery charged as it cant supply enough voltage on its own

The battery acts like a big capacitor to supress alternator noise but when it gets old it doesn't do it very well.

Best person to talk to is an auto electrician he can test your battery and your alternator

Legend, thanks for that! I reckon its the battery as a couple of times recently it has on the odd occasion struggled to start when been left for a couple of days without driving.

I ll get it checked.

Don't forget when installing a new battery you have to code it to tell the ecu you installed a new one otherwise it will overcharge your battery as it thinks it has an old one installed

Not true

You just have to recode and enter the details of the battery you are installing

So I got a new battery fitted as the old one was.........well old, 7 years to be exact. Got it fitted ad coded by VTL (thanks Vincent) and the whining noise through the speakers while the a/c is on is still there.

Did you get the alternator tested ?

Like I said earlier take it to an auto electrician

But sounds like your battery was on its last legs anyway

still sounds to me like you have an regulator problem that's in the alternator caused by your old battery overworking it

Get the car looked at by an auto electrician
