Vibrations over 70 MPH
I have a set of 19" aftermarket CSL reps, and when the wheels were first installed, they were smooth as butter as fast as I could go.
Recently, I noticed that when I go over 70 mph, I get a slight vibration. I don't recall hitting any major potholes, but I did hit a one good size bump a while back. I took the wheels to Firestone and had them rebalanced and they said that the wheels were only slightly off - maybe an ounce. Should I take them somewhere else to have the high speed balanced? What else could it be?? Thanks!! |

maybe the wheels aren't hubcentric since they are reps ? Double-check and get hubcentric rings for them if needed.
Also, make sure that the torque on the bolts is following OEM specs. |

to my experience, whenever there is vibration at a certain speed, it is a tire balance issue. does the vibration come from one corner of the car more than another? check to see if any weights were thrown from the rim. You may consider taking it in to have balanced.

I have taken it in. Looks like I may have to take it in once more. |

What's a good place to get rims rebalanced to a high speed like that reliably. I have that issue on my dad's car, but don't know who to go to besides the dealer to get this done properly. I don't want to be charged dealer labor rates for just rebalancing the rims.

BMW uses lug centric bolts, so a hub centric ring isn't necessary. it's more than likely to be the balance. i would take it somewhere that has a road-force balancing machine (like a Hunter GSP9700). those are what you want when it comes to speed specific vibrations.
