Exclamation 1er driver killed going wrong way on highway

This was near my house. He was going the wrong way for 15 miles or so from where he was first spotted. Very sad...was a young guy.

24 years old, 1:44am Saturday night/Sunday morning sounds about the time one would be coming home from the bars. I'd suspect that alcohol was involved. The 405 and 5 freeways are MAJOR freeways that would be near impossible to mistake direction unless one was impaired. Sucks for the family.

Wonder what the factors were that led the Camry passengers to come out with non-life threatening injuries while the 1er driver died. I always thought the 1er was a very safe car relative to others.

The 1-Series cars are very safe, but all bets are off when travelling at speed into a stationary object or object moving toward you with equal or greater speed and/or mass.

This^

I rarely go out on the roads after midnight especially during the weekend. Nothing good will happen during that time anyways.

Darwinism at its finest.

Glad this idiot at least didn't kill any innocent people, only himself. Good riddance. One less airbag for BMW to replace as well.

This only happens if the driver is impaired. As others have said, it was fortunate he did not kill someone else too.

I faced a wrong way driver on an interstate once. Very scary. Managed to dodge him but he killed himself and 3 others.

People in the Toyota (black car) suffered non-life-threatening injuries? Looking at the car, that almost seems impossible. Glad they're going to be OK.

I'm always upset to see someone who is impaired get behind the wheel and threaten innocent lives however I have had my fair share of stupid alcohol induced idiocy (as I'm sure most of us have had at one point or another). I am upset that he chose to get behind the wheel vs. getting a ride home but I feel great sadness and remorse for his family and friends who now have to deal with this loss.

I know the internet can be an easy place to have anonymity and point fingers but your statement (to me) is just as bad as someone driving drunk.

If you ever have the unfortunate circumstances of losing a loved one to a drunk driver as some of us have, it might change your perspective. Sorry, I don't have any sympathy for him. Only for the people he hit that somehow survived that.

Agreed. I've never understood why some people feel the need to offer their own judgement as it applies to a situation where no one has all of the details.

Also, about two months ago I was driving home from work at around 7 PM when I had to dodge this woman, a drunk driver traveling at full freeway speed going the wrong way:

Well, nobody even knows if this guy was drunk. Prior people were just assuming. Doesn't really matter. Drunk, high, or just dumb, it is frowned upon to drive the wrong way on a major freeway.

I wondered the same thing. It could've been something as simple as the 1er driver not wearing a seatbelt.

That's sad. Maybe the driver died because the Takata airbag didn't deploy. Obviously the true fault lies in driving in the wrong direction.

Poor family.

The Takata air bag issue has nothing to do with the inability to deploy in an accident. The Takata air bag issue is all about the propellant used and the casing of the propellant. The issue is in high humdity, high temperature environments the energy of the propellant and the corrosion of the casing causes the casing to fragment. The fragments become shrapnel which is what caused the deaths of those reported.

I'll reserve my comments about the probable drunk driving theory from a former first responder point of view.
