Info on this car?
Was poking around and stumbled on this. Does anyone have any info on this build or where they got the graphics, which are perfect IMHO. The 1M is frequently compared to the E30 M3 but it has always seemed to me to be more of a nod to the 2002 Turbo. What with its bubbly greenhouse, squared off dimensions, flares, turbo engine, etc.

My first car was a 1973 2002 purchased new in mid-1973 for $3700, with no A/C, no radio, and crank windows. It looked exactly like this model I own, in the same puke yellow:
I owned this car for 8 years, as my only car. This 2002 and later, a 1993 325i, owned for 10 years, are the foundation for my interest in this brand. There is NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING about the 1M or the more newly acquired 135i in my stable, that remind me of the 2002. It is all advertising nonsense. And the 2002tii was more powerful than the 2002, however it was the same car, and the tii was anemic as regards power compared to almost any modern car. |

What I find even more funny is that back in 2008 they were telling us how the E82 135i reminisces the 2002tii (I remember a video with it and the designer). Then BMW did the same (in a larger scale) with the M235i... It was suddenly a 2002 successor, not 135i's. |

i think some of you are missing the key highlights.
the 1M is most definitely a 2002 Turbo, part 2. Far more than it is an E30 M3 successor.... the 2002 Turbo was based on the 2002 series, however it too was a bit of a frankenstein as the prototype "M" car and one of the first cars on the road with a turbo. It was produced for 1 year....it was also low production...it had wide fenders for the time.....and it looked a bit bonkers just like the 1M. The 2002 Turbo was surrounded by a bit of mythology just like the 1M is surrounded in a bit of mythology. The 2002 Turbo's development was also very odd and unorthodox similar to how the 1M's development was strange. IN SPIRIT, the 1M and 2002 Turbo are most definitely connected. Although BMW's official advertising promos for the 1M always showed the E30 M3-----in my mind i got into this car because i've been obsessed with the 2002 Turbo for a long time. NOTE: The 2002 Turbo is not the same as a standard 2002....and that's not what we are talking about with these photos. |

Exactly IEDEI. The 2002 Turbo was a hot rodded version of the somewhat crappy but loveable pedestrian version of the 2002 that Champignon is talking about. To me the 1M is the same in spirit. Chris Harris didn't have kind words for the base 1 series, but he loved the 1M.
Sure Swagon there's a little marketing in there, but the idea of taking something pedestrian and and making it truely special warrants a little marketing buzz IMHO. And thanks for the links EvenEsteban!! |

OP the car is a 135i with a 1M conversion, look at the brakes on the picture and in the video you can see the DCT paddles on the steering wheel along with the gear changes on the cluster. Nice graphics and all nice car..
